I wonder if SJ has shot himself in the foot by saying how he wants to clear the debt, improve the stadium, training facilities and the area around Old Trafford. The two brothers are probably licking their lips at the prospect and the value the club could achieve in future years and could be holding out for a SJ bid that involves them staying as minority shareholders.
While this had been mentioned as a Ineos tactic, there still is some uncertainty around the overall plans they want to carry out. Not just that but the glazer brothers shares are only as valuable as the rest of the shares on the stock exchange. A SJ bid that involves them means only 3 shareholders and they could demand a premium for their shares in a few years time.
Interesting point - those public statements also signaled "hey look, we have another billion quid to play with". Unsurprisingly, the Glazers would prefer that money in their pockets.

It would be typical Glazers if they announce Ratcliffe on page 2016.

Adds nothing to the discussion
United is not being 'asset stripped'. I agree it is being mismanaged, but it is not being 'asset stripped'. Indeed, it is making a massive profit.

Furthermore I suggest you look up who the British government actually are, and what ideology they purport.

'Sheikh Jassim' will not clear United's debts or anything else, he cannot afford to. What you mean is a consortium with Jassim as the public face, though we all know it is a state bid being indulged to improve the image of an autocratic regime.

If the British government should involve itself (as it attempted with the ESL) with buying and selling football clubs, it should be refusing to allow such awful regimes from buying consent. I refer you to my opening introduction to your current government as to why that certainly will not happen.

It is galling to see an autocratic regime deemed a saviour whereas a democratic structure is criticisable. One would think is part of the Qatari plan.

One more. 'Improve the local area' is frankly offensive. Building unaffordable homes and 'state of the art' concert venues in low income residential areas (like city) is not a mark of 'improvement' nor is the subsequent influence they'll have over councils.

Oh, you were born into great wealth and no bother
Your Father gave the club to you and your brothers
Your name is Av-a-ram (Av-a-ram)
You never gave a damn

And you said that you would sell up
We'd get an owner who did give a f*%k
Oh, you never did it, although we often dreamt of it

Oh, Avram, do you recall?
Your ponytail is small
You’re ruining football
When the Sheikh came 'round to call
You wouldn’t take his bid at all…

And I said, Let's all meet up on the page 2000
Won't it be sad when you’re still here, we groan
We yearn to boot your - old arse down the road
We never knew that you'd still be here
Ruining the best thing you’ll ever own
Old Trafford’s damp and mouldy, Avram please just go

You were the last Glazer stooge to touch breasts
And no one’s ever said that you are the best
Oh, you’re very wealthy, but mate you’re a mess
We’ve had to watch as City won all the rest

You’re a clown who’s saddled our club with debt
You look like someone who’s done way too much ket
Oh, but it means nothing to you
'Cause Utd are so popular

Oh, Avram, do you recall?

He’s been endorsed by that guy Xavi

I was at the London eye for the Millenium Fireworks....the river of fire was a damp squib but the rest was very good...hoping this sale process ends in fireworks rather than some wet men in boats giving excuses!
The river of fire that didn't happen but everyone pretended it did was oddly appropriate in retrospect.

I just wanted to be part of the Caf's longest bullshit thread. I hope we're all nominated next year.

What was it then? Computers couldn't count past the date 2000 or something and end of the world was upon us.
The general idea was, some comupter software only had 2 digit spaces for the year, because when they first developed the software in the early seventies they didn't think they'd still be relevant some 30 years later. I guess they assumed they'd fully rewrite the software at somepoint in the future, instead of always rebuilding from the same early 70s UNIX base. Even today this is still kinda what is done, Linux and iOS have a common UNIX ancestry, iOS started as fork of FreeBSD, and even Android as a fork of Linux etc. Windows is based of Windows NT which is a full rewrite but even that was 20 years ago now.

Fun fact in some database software dates even today are stored as a raw number, that you convert to a real data format by adding the number of days and hours and minutes to 01/01/1970.

Anyway, the thought was, when 31/12/99 rolled round, software would freak out as the date code would be 01/01/00 or in theory could be 01/01/101 and since there wasn't spave for that, 01/01/10 and 1 would get pushed to another field in the code somwhere making it wrong. Basically nobody knew exactly how much random buggy behaviour it would cause.

In the end, they just rewrote the code to have the room for 01/01/2000
