Red Bull must be kicking themselves that they pitted Max
Pushing the limits.
They should have brought Hamilton in they had a clear pit stop and took far too big a risk. They got away with it but it was a risk not worth taking.
Pushing the limits the tyre was safe for 40 laps and they did far more than that.

Verstappen pitted with 1 lap to go, if he hadn't and Hamilton did stop he wouldn't have won.

That race was missing drama until then. Was a memorable ending at least.
Hamilton could've pitted for the last lap. He was 30+ seconds ahead going into it after Verstappen did.

It's up to the teams to build competitive cars, it's not Mercedes or FIA fault, it's the fault of Ferrari, Red Bull et al.
Will be a 2 stop and more strategy elements but doubt there will be as many failures at the end.

Crazy ending! It's so typical though that both Bottas and Hamilton have the exact same thing happen to them but of course it results in Bottas losing 18 points and Hamilton keeping his 25. Should've been the other way around since that would've made the championship a bit interesting, now it's all over instead.
Another race here next week, could be a change in trye choices, or told not to push them too far.

IIRC 2013 had similar issues with the tyres and Hamilton's went whilst in the lead!

Yeah I highly doubt Max would ve been so calm about all this if he hadn't thought that setting the fastest lap was more likely than catching up to Hamilton. He doesn't strike me as someone to mince words about that if he thought it was a stupid call.

Maybe Kvyat? Brundle suggested it was a rear puncture. As soon as Verstappen pitted they should have pitted Hamilton.
I remember Brundle mentioning Bottas had a cut tyre on the grid too?
