Michael never got beaten to a world title by a team mate in his prime... he also won 5 on the trot...

Lets also not get onto how many more race wins or world titles he'd have if his seasons were 22 races long....
Herbert, Irvine and Barrichello is hardly an endorsement for quality is it?

Jesus the 2007 season really gets worse with time for Alonso. Was there ever a driver more rattled by his team mate than Alonso that season?
There pribably was, but you only hear about that a lot because you follow English media whoch is normal. I am quite sure you would read similar stuff on the likes of Hamilton if you read Spanish media.

Nico Rosberg was a far superior teammate than any teammate schmacher had. Lewis lost that title by a single dnf at malaysia and that was the season mercedes swapped around the mechanics from lewis and nicos team.

Lewis is the much cleaner driver of the pair and didnt resort to the "dark arts" as schmacher did.

Ferrari had special super sticky bridgestone tyres that no other team on the grid had and they were specifically developed for the sf70 during that period of domination.

"...Back in the Schumacher dominant days of the early 2000’s, it was well known that Ferrari’s Japanese tyre partner Bridgestone developed their tyres to work specifically with the Ferrari car resulting in a very one sided affair each weekend. The rule makers eventually hindered that partnership enough to break the Michael Schumacher show and allow the Michelin runners a chance to compete. The result being Fernando Alonso in a Renault two Championship wins..."

Less not forget there werent any limits on testing your car, so marinello ran 24/7, 365 doing all the testing and upgrading ferrari wanted.

To suggest Hamilton’s achievement is somehow unworthy seems to assume that Schumacher won 91 races from the midfield or a fundamental car disadvantage.

The history books show that lewis has won more races and more pole positions than schumacher. He might still exceed michael in the number of drivers titles he has.

If we are talking about how many titles might of been won, were it not for one of the greatest sporting farces in motorsport history in abu dhabi last year, the dnf at malaysia the year nico won the title, or leaving lewis out for too long on old tyres in china in his debut season, lewis would of had 10 world titles to his name by now.

Both are very dominate drivers, who won alot of races and pole positions. However to call michael the most domiant driver in f1, just simply isnt true. To say michael would have won more races if he raced now in a 22 race season could be said the same of senna, fangio, jackie stewart, prost etc.

Also michael, came back to f1 after grooved tyres were outlawed. Rosberg out performed him at mercedes.

"..In all three seasons, Rosberg finished ahead of Schumacher in the drivers’ championship and in 2010 and 2012, Rosberg came close to scoring double the number of points of his more decorated team-mate. Schumacher was just 13 points behind in 2010 but overall Rosberg held the advantage with 324 points to 197..."

"..Schumacher scored points in 72% of races that he completed, but Rosberg pips him there too with 76%.

It becomes bleaker reading for Schumacher when we turn out attention to qualifying. Discounting grid penalties, Rosberg ended qualifying with the faster lap time on 41 occasions to Schumacher’s 17 which equates to 71% of the time.."

Rosberg v Schumacher stats compared (highest respective tally in bold)

Qualifying

Faster qualifying time: Rosberg 41 / Schumacher 17

Poles: Rosberg 1 / Schumacher
0

Front rows: Rosberg 2 / Schumacher 1

Races

Wins: Rosberg 1 / Schumacher 0

Podiums: Rosberg 5 / Schumacher 1

Points finishes: Rosberg 39 / Schumacher 31

DNFs: Rosberg 7 / Schumacher 15

Best race result (inc DNFs): Rosberg 35 / Schumacher 22

Ahead in two-car finish: Rosberg 22 / Schumacher 15

Championship

Overall points: Rosberg 324 / Schumacher 197

Seasons finished higher in standings: Rosberg 3 / Schumacher 0

Highest championship placing: Rosberg 7th (2010, 2011) / Schumacher 8th (2011)

So the guy who beat lewis to the title by a single dnf, comprehesively beat schumacher over 3 seasons.

Says it all really.

Again other than Rosberg quitting, I dont think anyone took things as badly as Alonso in 2007.

Prost by Senna and Mansell by Piquet were pretty bad outcomes but none to the extent of Spygate.

To all those who keep saying that Alonso was one of the Goats of the sport why was he never offered a top team position after McLaren stopped being good? Do you think that Merc, RB and Ferrari deliberately hamstrung themselves by not picking such an excellent driver?
He claimed he was offered a Red Bull drive in 2018 and turned it down. They have tried to hire him on at least 6 different occasions.

https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/1...lains-why-he-rejected-all-of-red-bulls-offers

He did Ferrari and they gave him a succession of poor cars. In the subsequent years they haven't done anything to prove he was wrong for jumping ship.

Alonso has had terrible timing all throughout his career post Renault, going back to McLaren and wasting his prime years in a car that was that far off was just really unfortunate. But I do think his general attitude puts off a lot of teams, he's probably a pleasure to work with but he's demanding and the second his car isn't good enough he's very vocal about it, it's a headache.

I was a bit put off Alonso recently with his slamming of Ocon which looked like a very normal race start by the guy and simply maneuvered in front and had a better start. Similar to his McLaren days he expects preferential treatment still.

Nick de vries must be a shoein to replace latifi. Mercedes driver, mercedes engines. Makes sense.

Tsunoda has been renewed at alpha. Shows how much RB talent pool has dried up.

Schumacher has never been outscored by Jensen Button across 3 seasons when team mates either.

90% of seasons aren't close anymore. Hardly surprising.

Only surprising thing about it this time is this one should have been close but Ferrari and Leclerc fecked it.
Another season like this one over 24 races would be awful for f1. Ferrari and Mercedes need to step up.

Anyway rumours abound that Mercedes will copy the RedBull design for next season.

We had years on end of Merc being the best car. Not sure why there is such a big deal being made of it this year. Especially considering Ferrari actually had the better car for the first half a season or so. Only recently has the Red Bull actually been dominant.

Merc copying Red Bull is probably not going to catch them up. Ferrari have the best chance as they already have a concept that was for a good portion of the season the best one.

Becuase we just had the biggest changes in f1 for 40 years. To encourage closer racing, bring the field closer together. Instead one team has pretty much walked away with it.

Need to give the new aero and wind tunnel rules time to have the desired effect but thatw ill take years. Another season as poor as this and f1will intervene again for the designs for the season after next.

New Aero rules will almost always result in one or two teams nailing it compared to the rest. It's not surprising.

Floor and diffuser rules are already being changed for next season.

I know that was supposed to be due to porposing but realistically it's no longer needed as that's a non issue these days. Might mix things up nonetheless.

Because Merc and Hamilton are not the ones walking to the titles.

2019 and 2020 were easily the least competitive and most boring F1 seasons this millennia. At least this season has 2 top drivers in 2 equally competitive cars, even if one of the teams royally fecked up several times.

Ferrari are so competitive that Max is going to end up with one of the most dominant seasons ever.

Plenty of people have always complained about the lack of competition when Lewis and Mercedes were so dominant.

Go back far enough and you’ll see the likes of Santi having a complete meltdown even after the first race

To make the championship more competitive, they switched to ground effect cars. In which perhaps the greatest F1 car designer of all time, who works for the best team with the equal best car last season, did his thesis.

I think the greater shock was that Ferrari were so close to them in the first place.

Common misconception is that newey is responsible for the aero on this years RB. He isnt. He spent all his time designing the suspension, which is the best on the grid. The aero was a team effort as it was simply too much for one person to deliver.

At the start of the season it was mentioned that RBs suspension could be this seasons f-duct and so it has proved. Its copying or understanding that suspension that will be key imho for ferrari and mercedes next season.

True, but to be fair Leclerc really should have at least 3 more wins, from Spain, Monaco and Baku/France/Silverstone.

The distance between Red Bull and Ferrari is tiny, probably even closer than the distance between Merc and Red Bull last season.

Ignoring all the pitwall shenanigans this season, the lack of race pace of Ferrari has been disappointing. They just seem to eat away their tyres faster than others.

I don't think it's an easy fix for them, they will have to redesign their chassis to generate more downforce

Wonder how difficult it would be for Mercedes and Ferrari to switch to pull rod suspension without going completely back to the drawing board.

And even then McLaren have shown that the right suspension is not a silver bullet.

suspect Mercs first major decision is zero pods or switch to the same as others... and given its September probably they don't have long to make that decision

Most likely have already made it. Lewis mentioned that they knew where to improve but couldn't until next year, biggest indication they might ditch the concept.

Zhou Guanyu signed for another year with Alfa. Will we see Alpine move on Gasly this weekend? It leaves Alpha Tauri, Williams and Haas to announce line ups.

Formula 1 to double number of Sprint races a season from three to six from 2023 onwards after discussions with governing body FIA; Proposal was unanimously backed by teams earlier this year and was voted through by World Motor Sport Council on Tuesday

Formula 1 will run six Sprint events a season from 2023 onwards after the sport finally gained approval for more Saturday races.

Doubling the amount of Sprint events has long been backed by teams, but has been a source of contention between F1 and governing body FIA, who had suggested earlier this year that the sport would continue with three.

But F1 and the FIA have held positive discussions on the format, the shorter Saturday race that sets the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix, and increasing the number to six a season was rubberstamped by the World Motor Sport Council on Tuesday.

The venues for the six events will be confirmed at a later date. F1 have revealed a record 24-race calendar for 2024.

"I am pleased that we can confirm six Sprints will be part of the Championship from 2023 onwards, building on the success of the new format introduced for the first time in 2021," said F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali.
