He's the one player Pep wishes he could steal from us, that tells you everything. Please stay fit.

Nah! He's overrated according to some on here, they can't be wrong ;)

Regardless of all the noise and debates around the injuries, we have missed him big time. That's undeniable I think.

Lisandro and Bruno alone transform us from a lower half Premier League team into a top four Champions League team.

We need to get our next signings right, just hope he stays fit, and you never know what is possible.

A leader with the strength and determination of someone a lot larger than he is. There were times when Haaland was trying to use his body to lean into him to try and keep the ball and Haaland is struggling to stay on his feet while Lisandro is standing up straight winning the test of strength and coming out on top. He also won several headers in front of Haaland that would have been great chances had he not made them

It’s funny. Most players’ image gets inflated during their absence. For some reason it was the other way around for Martinez. Maybe partly because it is being used to justify how poor we have looked under Eth this season.

But this guy is absolutely class and a monster. If he stays fit, we look a completely different side. Makes a massive difference to us. Perhaps the only signing of Eth who is an undoubted success.

Unfortunately he started the season poorly before the injuries so thats a good reason why. Then he got injured, came back and didnt look right and then had 1 or 2 good performances where things were finally looking back to normal for him and then he got injured again, then injured right after his return. So it wasnt just that he was injured but his early season performances before the injuries were a lot below last season and some of our worst CB performances of the season.

I do remember some of his earlier performances, but it also has to do with how poor the whole team was, especially exacerbated by the suicidal tactics by Eth.

Not sure why, but preseason didn’t seem right and our start to the season seemed like everyone was sleep walking and totally unfit. Maybe that is one of the reasons why Lisandro looked worse too.

Its true the whole team were poor, but there were several times that he had made a mistake at the back and his man had scored. So that made it more obvious that he wasnt up to the level of last season where that rarely happened

His combination of grit, technical ability and mental strength is a one in a dime for us. Pity about his injury record. Loved it when he squared up to Walker as he went off. We have missed that as much as his passing from the back

It is weird how he's a centre half, considering he his range of passing and his awareness around him and ball retention is better than most midfielders you'll see. He's one of those players you could stick in goal and he'd be tremendous.
He is small for a CB but he has the wits and grit to counter for that...I could not see him do the GK role though

Not necessarily the only player, but he's in that small group who would be able to start a lot of games for City and do very well for them. Not sure whether he's a top 5 CB in the world, but he's an incredibly unique profile with his press resistance and passing abilities. I'm not sure there's another centre back better than him at those things. Would also be unbelievably good in that LB/LCB role that both Pep and Arteta often use in their teams.

Yesterday was a great reminder of what a gem Martínez is. He's good enough to be a key player for any current side in the world, be that City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich. He has to be an integral part of our rebuild.

Brilliant player but surely he can't be injured again. If he can't stay fit for more than a month at a time then we need to look elsewhere.
It's just cramps. He rushed himself back so no match fitness + very intense game.

Licha at CDM doesn't work. He played there for Ajax a bit but was too slow there.

Loved how he was inviting Walker to the tunnel to sort things out.

We have a Keane in Martinez

Love him

He's very subtle with his "fouls" inside the box. That's what the best defenders do, work of art really. The way he initiated contact with Haaland early on was very well done. Just enough contact in the back to get him off balance, but not enough to give the ref a chance to give the penalty. He's done this quite often, invaluable trait.

Nah, he was good at CDM, but Ten Hag just didn't like him there and benched him for a while...

Him next to somebody with the pace and power to make up for the physicality that's the only thing he doesn't have would a brilliant partnership. Especially if they can play a little bit themselves as well.

Supposedly Barca are ready to listen to offers for Araujo who I'd absolutely love alongside Martinez... though it's very much a muppet signing and he apparently has injury issues himself. A cheaper, more under the radar option with anything like that kind of profile would be immense.

The perfect parnet for Lisandro is Cuti Romero if you think about it. Luckily we have both in the National Team, pretty young couple aswell

The current squad is very reliant on Martinez, he has been the biggest miss this season. Simply because he is the only CB of his profile that we have i.e. can pass through the lines, make progressive passes and most importantly aggressively step into the space in midfield. Its also why for me if we had all defenders fit and Licha got injured I'd put in Shaw as he's the closest to fit that profile. Its important we get another defender in the Martinez profile, ideally 2.

Him and Varane ate perfect centre pair. Such a shame that we didn't see them often together (and will never see them anymore).

Guy was immense - really hoping he can stay injury free next year - really hoping he isn’t becoming injury prone.

Is he in the squad for the Copa America?

Hope he gets left out of it and he can have a rest before pre-season. He's a massive player for us and you can see the difference in our whole team when he plays.

He is my favorite player in the team together with Mainoo. He makes defending look fun like Vidic did. We would have done so much this season if we had him, but as usual, our key players get injured for a long time.

Hope the people underplaying his absence can go back to crawling under a rock for a while
