Is he going away for the international break? Could probably do with staying at home putting his feet up.

Yea no, he isn't anywhere as good let alone better than a peak Carrick who still remains criminally underrated among United fans. Takes too long to get the ball moving, doesn't have the same passing range and gets closed down more easily because of how one footed he is. Just hold that position for a couple of seasons before we need to replace him again.

Withdrawn from Serbia camp and is returning due to injury.
That's him and Shaw, I'd like to think they're the type of knocks where both are just putting club before country

I don't think Carrick is underrated on here. He's underrated in the wider footballing world. Probably because he didn't have much character to his game.

BBC: Manchester United's Nemanja Matic pulls out of Serbia squad with injury
Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has withdrawn from the Serbia squad ahead of their Nations League fixtures.
Matic, 30, will miss Serbia's matches against Montenegro and Romania due to an unspecified injury.
United have confirmed the player will return to the club "to complete his rehabilitation".
He is a doubt for their next Premier League clash which is against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 20.
Old Trafford manager Jose Mourinho could also be without Luke Shaw against Chelsea after the left-back returned to Manchester injured from England duty on Monday, ahead of the Three Lions' double-header internationals against Croatia and Spain.
Thank f for that. He needs a rest.

For the best. He's been awful recently.

Let Fellaini be the CDM with Pogba and 1 other, probably Herrera (or Mctominay knowing Jose)

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Yep. I was hoping Fellaini would play that role anyway so he could help deal with Giroud who will dominate Lindelof (who I expect to play) in the air and any other physical engagements. Then bring Herrera in to hopefully deal with Hazard.

Thought he was very good in second half. Won possession so many times and defensively he was good. Also carried the ball well. First half he was average though.

Poor to average in the first half like everyone else then in the second he was great especially using his body to shield the ball.

Really needs to be dropped. Very poor, has been for much longer than people will admit.

He's coasting games. Lacks energy and confidence. Shadow of a player from last season.

Collosal waste of money. Good for 4 months and now we're stuck with sub standard performances.

He was poor for a lot of last season, too.

Got away with it largely because his replacement at Chelsea was shocking.

Had a ten minute spell in the 2nd half where he perked up a bit but was clumsy in possession at times and didn't offer a lot on the ball when he drove ahead of Pogba.

Looking very old to me so far this season. Hard to believe he has only just turned 30. He's playing as though he was 33, possibly even older than that.

Thought he was excellent today! Seems to be trendy to get on his back at the moment though!

He was dreadful in the first half, and I still think he should have been subbed off for Herrera, but he showed great heart in the last 20 minutes or so. His mentality isn't the problem; it just looks like his legs have gone.

Dreadful no doubt, but was absolutely brilliant in that second half.

Was he though?

He was summed up in a moment he did well to win the ball, only to lose it a moment later.

Or when he beat hazard to the ball, only to give a hospital pass to Pereira which led to a chelsea throw in.

Needs dropping and replacing.

He really did look finished at the very top level in his last season at Chelsea. All their fans admitted it too. He had a great start here for about 3-4 months where he looked like one of our best players, but since then his standards have only continued to drop.

Needs phasing out, quite big time.

He was good for about 15 minutes in that game, apart from that was more of the same.
That’s his United career in a nutshell really. He started off spectacularly in his first few games, then went on to be just average or so for the rest of that season, and this season has been very underwhelming.

I hate that he is almost always guaranteed a starting role when available. Thats leads to complacency. Even the likes of Messi get rested once in a while and they are far more influential players. That he comes back from injuries and straight back in should stop.

And don't start with his insistence on having a dozen touches before doing nothing with the ball. Compound that with him playing next to Pobga and u start seeing the reason why we slow as a team.

The rule of thumb is the ball will always travel faster than a player but him and Paul like to drive with it and only get to release it when a player they pass to is now marked of in an inefficient spot to do much with the ball.

Does Mourinho notice this?? Frustrating

Awful first half, very good in the second. I do think a Matic replacement should be something the club should be looking at, but due to bigger needs in the squad that may be another 18 months away.

Considering he forced himself to back after being injured a couple of weeks ago, and he was next to a midfielder who... Well isn't interested in doing any midfield work, it wasn't too bad a performance at all.
We need cover for Matic, but a replacement? Nah.
