People might laugh at La Liga's reaction to this, but this is a legitimate blow to the way they are trying to sell themselves.
They've been chasing the Premier League for the past ten years and their strategy was nicely aligned with the two big clubs having the hottest attacking talent in the world to compensate for a dearth of competition and quality in the rest of the league.
But now, they've just been gazumped and lost possibly the biggest rising superstar of the game by a team from a small league. Forget the money, it's the affront that's killing them. Unlike the Premier League, their whole marketing is based on the players and they've made it so that the fans follow the players more than the teams and they're feeling it now that it has gone tits up.
