Not looking forward to balancing home schooling and full time job. Hope these morons breaking Covid rules are happy.
FYI - this post was before Christmas.Well the government's chief science advisor has quite literally told us all today that the mutated version of the virus is in all areas of the country, that there'll be a spike in cases due to the "inevitable" Christmas mixing, and that tougher restrictions will follow as a result.
So basically you can expect case numbers to rocket up in a lot of areas over the next few weeks and then the government to snap into action after it's too late to do anything about it, acting as if it's some kind of unforseen surprise, even though clearly it wont be.
And then it will probably be the people's fault for not sticking to guidelines that for most of them inexplicably aren't even due to be in place yet, or something.
We were told today that its 1,179 cases per 100,000 in our area now. It was 800 odd only a few days ago, 500 odd the week before. 300 odd the week before that. Nothing meaningful was done until 2 days ago despite the alarm bell being rung for weeks, and now cases will carry on spiking here until Christmas is out of the way as people were given no time at all to adjust plans. I'm back to helping out with medicine and food delivery from tomorrow because they've allowed it to get to a stage again where the support systems can't cope, despite making that mistake in March and having the data available this time to have avoided it. I suspect this is going to get quite bad.
The government has aimed for the bare minimum of the NHS not complately running out of capacity, and they're in very severe danger now of failing to even achieve that in large areas of the country, and yet still failing to heed the warning from their own advisor for the areas where there is still time to do something about it.
Or the government could have put everyone into tigther restrictions weeks before Christmas like they should have done and like everyone looking at the figures was telling them to do, and easily avoided all of this and not cost thousands of people their lives. Not looking forward to balancing home schooling and full time job. Hope these morons breaking Covid rules are happy.
Yes I should have added about the Government as well. As per my earlier posts, I am no fan and think they are incompetent beyond belief but in terms of rule breaking, it is certainly beyond the odd idiot. Every bit contributes to the problem.Or the government could have put everyone into tigther restrictions weeks before Christmas like they should have done and like everyone looking at the figures was telling them to do, and easily avoided all of this and not cost thousands of people their lives.
No one "broke" any of the restrictions around here, because until case numbers were over 1,000 per every 100,000, we didn't even really have any.
I wish people would wise up to how stupid it is to blame the odd idiot when it's just completely blatant that this is a fairly insignificant factor in the problem
Does seem like it’s been government policy to give ourselves just enough rope to hang ourselves. They’re desperate for us to blame each other rather than them, and yeah, idiots gonna idiot, but Boris and his cabal have far more blood on their hands than some random group of people having a small party at New Year.I wish people would wise up to how stupid it is to blame the odd idiot when it's just completely blatant that this is a fairly insignificant factor in the problem
Fully agree that the Government's handling has been atrocious and they are the main culprit in all of this however these people who have broken rules shouldn't be given a free ride to absolve themselves of any responsibility.Does seem like it’s been government policy to give ourselves just enough rope to hang ourselves. Do you have symptoms or just a positive test result?Well. It got me. Tested positive.
Me too!it was just me venting more than anything!
Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you.Or the government could have put everyone into tigther restrictions weeks before Christmas like they should have done and like everyone looking at the figures was telling them to do, and easily avoided all of this and not cost thousands of people their lives.

That’s been apparent since they first lifted restrictions in the summer. They’re absolutely delighted to sit back and watch people tear themselves apart, blaming each other. Four more years minimum of these cnuts.Does seem like it’s been government policy to give ourselves just enough rope to hang ourselves. Can't smell anything whatsoever, the "runs", bad sinus pain & headache (as of today), fatigue, muscle painDo you have symptoms or just a positive test result?
Oh yeah based on what happened last time with BLM, and the fact people care much more about this, if there were significant protests on one side a counter protest would quickly follow, and very possibly get violent. A lot of people near breaking point at this stage.Yes, down with that sort of thing.
Might there not be a problem with protestors who want exactly the opposite 'solution' to each other?
Fair enough, can’t argue with that!Preferably not hundreds, maybe thousands, of folk randomly marching through the city and fighting with me and my colleagues.
A legitimate planned socially distanced protest with a start and end time sure. Go ahead .
No doubt my work will still be making us come in to the officeBBC 17:24
PM expected to announce measures similar to March
Laura Kuenssberg-Political editor
The prime minister is expected to announce a set of new national restrictions for England at 20:00 GMT, similar to the national lockdown in March, that he is likely to urge the public to follow from midnight.
It’s expected that people will be told to work from home unless they are a key worker, or it is not possible for them to do so, for example if they work on a construction site.
Schools will close again for most pupils.
It is not yet clear when the measures will be reviewed, but MPs are likely to be given a vote to approve them retrospectively on Wednesday.
This comes after the rapid rises in coronavirus cases and admissions to the NHS.
And after the Joint Biosecurity Centre raised the alert from the pandemic to level five tonight, which means the NHS is at risk from being overwhelmed and that a national lockdown is imminent.
It is also understood that the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, told the prime minister the new more infectious variant of coronavirus is spreading now throughout the country.
Good luck man! Can't smell anything whatsoever, the "runs", bad sinus pain & headache (as of today), fatigue, muscle pain
This is what annoys me the most. We literally could’ve stopped significant importation of the virus had we acted quickly, closed the borders to non-nationals & required returning nationals (or those with rights to live/work/study) to quarantine in hotels rather than relying on people to self-quarantine themselves. They left the borders open, don’t test anyone coming in & think people will actually self-quarantine without contact with anyone else. The government have handled this appalling, per capita we're still one if not the worst in the world for deaths.
Baring in mind the UK were not the first to be hit, infact multiple countries were hit first. It doesn't take a fecking genius to realise that when a country starts mass producing fecking hospitals that something serious is going down.
The other thing, being an ISLAND is a fecking advantage that hasn't been exploited at all during this entire covid period.
At the same time the government should of done more to punish those that broke the rules whether that be their buddies or anyone within the country. Fines should of been handed out like fecking candy to those going to a party.
Seriously those cnuts in Brittany should be jailed, set an example and people will be less likely to break the rules and 1000s of lives could of been saved if this had been from the start.
Johnson could've made the gravity of the situation crystal clear by sacking Cummings for flouting the rules but his 'we're all in this together' rhetoric was fatally undermined the minute he let that slide - only to push him out 6 months later anyway.Fully agree that the Government's handling has been atrocious and they are the main culprit in all of this however these people who have broken rules shouldn't be given a free ride to absolve themselves of any responsibility.
He has to, Eastenders is on afterBloody hell he’s on time
Pre-recorded?Bloody hell he’s on time
Same. My purchase is going through atm. Dont think it will stop anything, but stuff like getting decorators etc and buying furniture and stuff will be a ball ache.I think you'll be able to move but it's the other stuff you need to do around it that's a pain in the arse.
The awkward pause where he didn’t realise he was live yet suggests not but he’s stupid enough to do that on a recording so who knows.Pre-recorded?
