JinxDoes anyone see him starting against the likes of Bayern or Real if we progress further in the CL?
Could be sooner than that, I remember the likes of McNair getting OTT praise. It does appear he's a Mourinho project and I think he will be given every chance to make it and I hope he does. He's nothing special though. Yet!The praise on here for him is well over the top.
As a side note, I doubt this lad will be around in a few years.
He's a kid in his debut season FFS, give him a chance!Does anyone see him starting against the likes of Bayern or Real if we progress further in the CL?
I actually think he's decent but i don't think he'll help us win the CL as he's not ready. We need more depth and quality in midfield. He's a kid in his debut season FFS, give him a chance!
Being the top player in the youth system means nothing if they don't have the correct mentality (ie Ravel Morrison), this kid clearly has the right mentality, listens to his manager and will keep learning from great CMs like Matic and Carrick. He might turn into a world class midfielder but as long as he does the basics well, continues to improve and puts a shift in, he'll still be in and around the team.People over the moon that Mourinho is giving a guy, who's not even close to being the top player in the youth system, opportunities to demonstrate his low ceiling. The standards are so low. He's over 6 feet, follows banal instructions...he mirrors the mold of a Mourinho soldier that will sit there carrying out the orders from a tactically inept general right till the end.
Calm down. There is nothing funny in what I wrote. Usually when a kid comes through he tries to impressive, to prove his quality on the ball, but Mctominay only passes the ball sideways and backward..just like Cleverley used to do. So my point was that instead of blaming him we should look at the manager as he is clearly happy with his performances !I don't understand this post. I mean, what does that even mean? Is it a joke?
He helped us tonight, in the CL, by doing the job asked of him effectively.I actually think he's decent but i don't think he'll help us win the CL as he's not ready. We need more depth and quality in midfield.
That picture of Busquets will look great on your wall.If I have to watch Busquets lying on the ground faking another injury in a United shirt, I'll just as well go get five meters of good rope, an iron hook, and something to drill it into the wall with.
Eh? Since he was 5?21 years old and he was a part of the club before Ferdinand, that's pretty mind blowing!
Yep, apparently Utd first took an interest in him when he was 5.Eh? Since he was 5?
This. I haven't see anything that makes you go "wow, now I understand why Jose picks him!". Steady but nothing special. I'm not sure exactly what Jose sees in him but he must be amazing in training because I'm not seeing it on the field. It was the same with Fellaini and LVG. People couldn't understand why he was in the team at times but he follows instructions and that's why 3 managers have deemed him very important. McTominay is exactly the same. He isn't the most talented player but he follows instructions and that's why he's in the team. It's something I don't understand at this club. The so called talented stars start well ( Di Maria, Pogba, even Martial etc) but end up getting benched by players of lesser quality ( Young, McTominay)People over the moon that Mourinho is giving a guy, who's not even close to being the top player in the youth system, opportunities to demonstrate his low ceiling. I already take mentality into my ratings. And his main attribute is he's a 'Yes Man' whose ceiling is low. Mourinho obviously values that over anything to do with footballing ability (e.g. Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah). And that's a huge problem. SM is not a component of any starting 11 that would win big trophies. Sure, he can develop into a squad player but that does not give you enough in CL games against non-elite opposition. This grading on a curve is just absurd for a big club.Being the top player in the youth system means nothing if they don't have the correct mentality (ie Ravel Morrison), this kid clearly has the right mentality, listens to his manager and will keep learning from great CMs like Matic and Carrick. Mourinho should've recalled Pereira IMO. Who knows how long Herrera is out for? I don't think McTominay is talented enough to offer more than just aHe helped us tonight, in the CL, by doing the job asked of him effectively.
He's probably not going to boss the midfield against Real, Barca, Bayern etc. because, well he's 21 and in his first year at senior level. So thats probably not a fair expectation to put on him, yet.
Joined in 2002, the same year as FerdinandEh? Since he was 5?
Pereira has played 17 games for Valencia, mainly from the wing, compared to Scotts 14, all in CM.Mourinho should've recalled Pereira IMO. Who knows how long Herrera is out for? I don't think McTominay is talented enough to offer more than just a
stable and average performance at this juncture. He could surprise me of course, but I really don't think he should be starting crucial games right now.

Yeah but he's not gonna win us the CL singlehandedly this season is he?The absolute state of some of you.
Young lad played well.
Well done.
Pereira has played 17 games for Valencia, mainly from the wing, compared to Scotts 14, all in CM.
Based on the fact that he did exactly what was asked of him tonight (and ignoring the fact that Pereira chose to go on loan) what makes you think Pereira would be more useful to us?
He's more experienced and he's more talented, therefore he has the ability to change a game. Im not against McTominay getting minutes, just not in crucial games this season unless injuries force Mourinho's hand. Thats my opinion.Pereira does fancy tricks, feints and dribbles; that's why he is a better option . Scott Mctominay plays percentage football and that's not exciting and we are Manchester United so we demand excitement! This team could accomplish a lot more if some of our expensive toys played more percentage football.
I never said that.Yeah but he's not gonna win us the CL singlehandedly this season is he?
feck him off!
I'm not sure about you, But, the first thing on my mind is not talent or game-changing when I think of a midfielder. That type of stuff is reserved for attackers. He's more experienced and he's more talented, therefore he has the ability to change a game. I was agreeing with you, recalibrate your sarcasm detector!I never said that.
But what if he did?
Lad played well in a KO Cl game away and people expect him to be the second coming of Scholes, Keane and Robson.
So if given the chance in a CL knockout game you'd pick McTominay over Pereira? Lets not forget, Mourinho was trying to groom Pereira in midfield because he was playing him as a CM in preseason. He's not even impressed that Pereira is playing as a winger or whatever advanced position Valencia are deploying him in.I'm not sure about you, But, the first thing on my mind is not talent or game-changing when I think of a midfielder. When I think midfield, I think reading the game, spatial awareness to find a pass, tracking runners, tackling, interceptions. These qualities are the foundation for good midfield play. All top midfielders have these attributes and midfield is not a place where you showcase your talent; it is all about efficiency.
I'm sorry I misplaced my sarcasm detector.I was agreeing with you, recalibrate your sarcasm detector!
Well I don't particularly 'rate' either of these players; so I wouldnt want either of these as they are not at the right level for me. Periera is better on the ball, while McTominay is better off the ball. Both players are physically good. Both players have inconsistent decision making. So if given the chance in a CL knockout game you'd pick McTominay over Pereira? Lets not forget, Mourinho was trying to groom Pereira in midfield because he was playing him as a CM in preseason.
