Not to mention his previous two clubs are run by absolute cnuts. Jose at United will not be like Jose at Chelsea under Abromovic or Jose a Madrid under Perez.
Abromovic as you call him keeps a very low profile, never makes comments or gives interviews to the press, provides the funding without looking for a return on his investment and doesn't appear to have gotten involved in the football side of things since buying his friend Shevchenko years and years ago.

How can abramovich be to blame for José having the most embarrassing title defence in history? Sounds like you're making excuses for him.

How many managers has Chelsea had since Abromavich arrived??

There's probably one or two I've missed. Bit of a revolving door there.
He's fired 12 and hired 11.

Edit: almost as many as Madrid have hired and fired. Off topic, but looking at their manager terms in charge, how could anyone want to work there?

$$$$$$$$

Its the easiest payout. Get a 3-4 year contract, get sacked after a year and go home with a huge severance package.

He's fired Ranieri, Jose (twice), Grant, Scolari, Ancelotti, AVB, and di Matteo. I count 8, not 12.

Hiddink, Rafa, and the caretakers between managers weren't fired.

That is what many anti Mourinho posters can't understand. Mourinho was hired by 3 absolute trigger happy nutters (Roman, Moratti and Perez), who only want instant success. One miss step is all they needed to sack their manager. How can anyone possible expect Jose to develop youths in such circumstances?

Mourinho lost the squad after the fall out with the doctor. His pride didn't allow him to back down and apologise - a mistake I'm sure he will never make again.

The players clearly stopped playing for him, they were just dragging their heels until mourinho was gone.

The fact is though he still knows his way around England and how to win, he can get a squad motivated and that's exactly what we need.

your teenage username tells us where your loyalty lies
 I made this username back when we were all caught up in the hysteria after his first preseason over in the states, we played some great stuff and this place was full of comments about the future being bright, the future is orange and that crap.

How was I supposed to know he'd be so poor. Of course I want him gone, so don't say I'm just against Mourinho, I want a manager that will do the job quietly and efficiently like Pochettino.

We have enough clowns in suits running this club without adding Mourinho to the circus.

If he comes to United - and I hope he does, I'm pretty sure it will be made clear to him the importance we place on bringing through youngsters. However, we've shot ourselves in the foot on that score by putting the academy on the back burner. Say what you like about Van Gaal, but he's never hesitated to play the kids. Sometimes that's been forced on him but by and large, they've done well.

He was long enough at Chelsea in his first stint to give some young players the chance, even at Real imo. In his second stint at Chelsea it looked like Roman settled down on him and he said things like he is finally ready for a long-term thing....
In the end it was the same Mourinho again, he just isn't really great with youth and I don't think anyone should expect much in that regard with us either. If we hire Jose, then because we reached a point where we are also desperate for instant success like Chelsea, Real and Inter before us.

Know him well do you?

He's an egotistical maniac, what makes you think he's learned anything? He'd rather blame anyone and everything than accept his own mistakes. A UNICEF backed plot to put Barcelona in the final

Strange, strange man.

There was no one, he gave minutes to Sinclair and Hutchinson.

We won't get Poch so I'd not dwell on that fantasy too long. The way I see it, we have two choices.

1) Hire a manager to start a rebuild. Giggs? Neville? Some other young manager or experienced manager looking for stability. This was supposed to be Moyes, then LVG, but between him and Woodward, they have cocked it up immensely. Be prepared to go through several years of mediocrity on all fronts. Possibly losing out on consecutive years of CL football. Losing TV money, Adidas money, and possibly signing players that are not up to our historic standard over the past 20+ years. The fans won't like this choice, but we're at a point that this may be what the board are thinking. We also need to rebuild our youth development. We're losing talent to City. It will continue because those player's parents are going to drink the City Kool-aid.

2) Realize that in this day, success is paramount to keep up with the other teams that have already realized it and bring in a manager that has experience, balls, and is not afraid to go for it. Moyes was not that man. LVG is partly that man but his job has certain expectations. Most importantly to groom Giggs into a viable successor. The only problem with this plan is that his philosophy is not working with the players we have. Maybe it's because his hands are tied on certain players like Rooney. Maybe it's because he's underestimated the parity in the Premier League. Maybe, he's just tired and dreaming about his villa in Portugal. Whatever the reason, he's not fulfilling the expectations of the fans, the club, the players, or the sponsors.

So who is the man that is realistically available, has experience with managing egos, working with money, not afraid to drop a star player that is not performing, and has done it on all fronts?
Hint: there is only one answer to this question.

Hire Jose, let Giggs take on the youth or a job elsewhere to get experience. See where we are in 3 years. One thing for sure, we're going to fall further behind the pecking order with Pep at City, Poch at Spurs, Wenger at Arsenal, Klopp at Liverpool, and who knows at Chelsea.

We can harp on and on about youth but at the end of the day do we have young players who are good enough to promote? Our system hasn't produced a genuine first team player since Evans and Fletcher so unless we sought out the problems at that end I don't see the point in us making it a job requirement to give chances to Lingard, McNair and co.
Right now the first team is in the shit and genuine, realistic options are at a premium so why trim down the list of eligible candidates when our system is failing to produce players of the quality needed?

The love in for Pochettino confuses me.

This is a manager who was fired at Espanyol with a 30% win rate, left Southampton with a 35% win rate and at Spurs, with decent resources, and at a time where United, Chelsea and Liverpool are as weak as they've ever been (and City/Arsenal are hardly setting records), he's only keeping pace with the leaders.

United have tried a manager who looked solid with less resources. He didn't work. If we're going to look to smaller clubs for managers, they need to have been successful like Fergie was at Aberdeen or José was at Porto.

Pochettino has never won a trophy. Anywhere. He's being overrated this year, not because he's good, but because the top sides are so bad.

Longevity means little when a manager is working with a revolver near his head and ordered to deliver trophies on a year in year out basis. We're talking here about clubs capable of sacking managers whom, few months before, had won league and even CL titles. The only time Mourinho could develop youths (and to be fair he failed) was at Porto. However he did a magnificent job there working under a restricted budget. Also at Porto his aim was to win quickly and move somewhere else.

I don't feel that I can qualify myself as an expert about the man. However I do remember something about him during his time in Italy which impressed me. However before I can share it I have to give an idea of what Mourinho was in Italy. The man was considered a god there, someone who defied gravity by putting Manchester United of the iconic SAF in difficulty. He was full of confidence as his team was cruising to a historical treble despite losing up club favourite Ibra. His confrontational approach, his confidence and his mind games was nothing short from scandalous and infectious for the Italians who were used to the usual 'bow the head' to the football's padrinos and the people loved him for it as so many managers who had never experienced mind games fell to it miserably.

I remember this particular tv programme called il Chiambretti night. Chiambretti is quite controversial and self centered himself (he's got a programme called for him) and tend to invite people who are similar to him in a 1 to 1 meeting were he would explore their lives, their thoughts etc. Jose was spectacular in that program, a great show man oozing confidence from every direction. However when Chiambretti asked him about his record with youths all his confidence vanished and he suddenly became sad. He claimed that there was more to be done on this regard and that he would work hard to develop some of the Inter youths including Balotelli and Santon. He could have easily bypassed that question by saying that the only thing that truly matters is success. He was Inter's manager after all, a club who broke up with AC Milan because they wanted to buy shiny foreign talent, however he went into details and was quite emotional about it.

As you well know Mourinho didn't stayed long at Inter. Balotelli turned out to be a lazy cnut and Santon's picked a number of injuries which basically ruined him. However that interview convinced me that if the guy signs with a proper club than he will do his outmost to improve his record in this regard.

Agreed. Never achieved anything in his career, and should be given the job.

May as well wait for Gary Neville to survive relegation and give him the job.

Indeed. The Spanish Moyes, perhaps? :wenger:

Serious doubts if he can make the step up to big club and the pressures that come with it.

I think he had came to a stage where he is fed up of the circus and he wants to settle down. TBF I don't blame him. He basically worked with 3 of the worst clubs (in terms of how they treat managers) in football. The only one missing out of the list is AC Milan were the owner give lectures to the manager about tactics on life tv and his daughter bangs the players.

I'm all for giving him a chance here, but Mourinho was the circus at Chelsea this season. Nobody can say that they think he's left that behind when he's been at his most erratic this season.

Mourinho wasn't my first option however I can't blame him too much on what happened at Chelsea. It's not easy to live under that sort of pressure especially when all things start going wrong. LvG has more experience in that and he's trembling under it. Also I refuse to believe that Maureen wasn't back stabbed by his players That's quite tough to take

He took one great decision which was around 30 years ago which he compensated to it by suggesting Moyes instead of Mourinho
Also survived the Munich crash and helped lead the club back to greatness. But yeah, the Moyes thing cancels it all out.... Love your input.

Agree with your last point. Thats a nasty deviant sort of internal workplace politics that's hard to deal with and recover from, especially when it was Mourinho who inspired them to glory the year before.
