I really don't accept this reasoning. Van Gaal has only one year left on his contract and paying that up would be only a drop in the ocean for Utd.
compared to the amount of money lost by not playing in the CL.

I agree

Koeman did better.
Edit: I guess my point is maybe he took that Southampton team where they should be: mid table.

I think he has done well with Spurs but I wouldn't call his work exceptional and, more importantly, there is every chance he will not be able to replicate it. There have been many managers in the EPL who have had one a very good season; the majority never managed to replicate it. So until he does, I reserve my judgement.
mid table was a good level for them though. They were promoted back in 11-12 and were like 15th or so in 12-13 when they appointed poch in jan. From there to get to 8th the next season end is amazing. Especially he brought in maybe 3-4 players at best, mainly because they didnt have funds. Koeman in reality took over a mid table club and they are still mid table. It obviously is a big deal that he did that even with the sales but southampton were reasonably attractive by then. They were nothing the previous season. That gives more credibility to poch frankly.

me neither. or at least, it wouldn't/shouldn't be a deciding factor of whether or not he stays for another year.

for that matter, there should be absolutely nothing that can conceivably happen between now and the end of the year that justifies keeping him on.

You know what? Those values are associated with (perceived) blue chip companies and, for sure, United's bosses want the club to be viewed as such.
I hear what you are saying but the Glazers are businessmen first and foremost.
You talk about values/heritage and no scandal. Sure. That makes sense.
However, what Mourinho is is box office.
It's like making a big budget movie with a big name movie star.

El Classico pulls huge TV audiences. Probably the biggest audience of a non cup final game.
Imagine the following:
MCFC vs MUFC
Guardiola vs Jose
For the next 3 years.
2 old foes, who have brought their fight from Spain, to England. The marketing blurb writes itself.

Woodward in particular, should be licking his lips in anticipation of this.
When he is tying up more commercial deals, the sponsors (to stick the name of their company on our merchandise) will be trying to reduce the price quoted. This is quite normal. They will claim that as a 5th place club, we can no longer command the same prices for sponsorships. Woodward can merely mention the following:

"Next year we will have Jose, who will bring in players of a high calibre who are known around the World, which will attract new audiences who want to see their footballing idols play. We will also be playing against MCFC, twice (see box office comment, above). Audiences are likely to be bigger, which means your brand will be seen by more eyes.
You say that we are a 5th place club - I say that next season, we shall have the biggest TV audiences ever!
And lets not forget the trophies that Jose is so famous for winning, wherever he goes. These will help improve our TV audience figures around the World, further.
For all these reasons, rather than reducing the price, we are actually thinking about increasing our prices, so my advice would be to sign up the deal asap, before we increase the price".

From a business/financial angle, Jose is a no-brainer.

'I was in Spain, but I didn't enjoy,' Mourinho told talkSPORT. 'I didn't enjoy it because I won a title with a record in Spain with 100 points and 121 goals, but we played only three or four matches all season. I lost a title with 92 points, but again we played only four or five matches in the season.
121 goals!
I'll take some of that please.

I was at the Moyes press conference after the Wigan Community Shield game though, even asked him a question. I've never seen a man look more terrified, and you could see all the other journos looking at each other and asking 'WTF'. Rang my dad afterwards and predicted this would be a disaster.

Sums it up nicely. Two of Fergie's three great sides were composed largely of imported players (often at great expense) and even 99 had a core of expensive imports (Cole, Yorke, Stam, as well as older buys like Keane). The 94 and 99 sides also had a real hard streak (verging on thuggish with 94). And, paraphrasing his biographer's words (McIlvany), Fergie was never one to pass a pile of firewood without throwing a lighted match on it. But, no, we're the morally superior nice guys who rely on homegrown players and for whom winning is incidental. No trophy winning machines like Mourinho please, we need someone like that nice David Moyes again.
100 per cent agree.

I bet Andy D'Urso still has nightmares of Keano screaming in his face, and our fans are worried Jose might upset people...

He's not coming. In fact, I'm so confident of him not coming that I will donate 20 quid to the caf if he does
It's looking more and more like this. The comment about "going where he's wanted" struck me the hardest. I'm so fecking disappointed right now. Charlton and the board really are clueless.

This whole Everton takeover thing is making more and more sense for Mourinho. He will basically have FULL control of that club and he can shape it how he likes it, which will be a trophy winning machine.

This is the darkest timeline of United about to start. Brace yourselves.

MEN are such clueless fecking morons it's unreal. No better than the Daily Star or the Mirror.

If Mourinho is lined up now he'll be coming in whether we get top four or not, regardless of whether we have to compensate LVG for ending his contract early. If Mourinho is coming he'll be getting wages in line with Pep at City, which will dwarf any compensation paid to LVG.

The LVG (16/17) + Giggs (17/18) if we get 4th, and Mourinhio (16/17 onwards) if we don't, makes absolutely no sense.

The club can't possibly think LVG is the right man for next season if we finish an epic 4th place two seasons in a row after the amount we've spent and playing the football we have. And even if it ties into the "Giggs is the next Pep" succession plan, then why even consider Mourinho who will be in charge for awhile and put his own imprint on the team, instead of just giving Giggs the job?

Aubemeyang would in my opinion be a better signing than Lukaku. And we need goals, no doubt about that.

Ladies and gentleman, thanks for reading my post. I've written this post for two reasons...

Firstly, to ensure the posters of RedCafe that everything that can be done over our future is being done
Secondly, is The Mourinho's offer to be our manager...But first, let's consider the situation....Should we give in to this manager's demands?

The Mourinho is an outlaw...But thats not why we're demanding he become our manager, we're doing it because we're scared. We've been happy to let The LvG clean up until now....

But the night is darkest just before the dawn. I promise you, the dawn is coming...One day, The Mourinho will have to answer for the rules he's broken but, to us. Not to madmen at the club.....

This is why the fecking match going fans need to make it clear they won't stand for LVG next season. They've been respectful this season and it's going to bite us in the ass. The board thinks all is good with LVG and the fans are content with the little bits of joy Rashford and Martial have created. This is not a good look for us. We are not a 4th place club.

He could go to the pub with a flag saying "I'm the Manchester United manager" and people would still somehow doubt he's coming here. Chill.

The match going fans need to support the team, as supportive fans will actually aid us in achieving 4th place which is the aim now. That has nothing to do with the board's decision-making. The fans in the stadium behaving like spoilt pricks making the atmosphere tense will achieve nothing but hurt the team's morale.

The only reason we even have a chance at top 4 is because City are absolute shit.

We were pretty much done at one point. Stoke? Have you forgotten?

That doesn't matter. What matters is that we are 1 point less shit than them and have a chance to finish 4th.

I have no idea why the fans in the stadium should stop supporting their team because of a result months ago at Stoke.

If he wants to be at a place where he's truly wanted, then it isn't here is it?
I disagree. Plenty of fans want him here. Me included.
I like it when we win. And Jose is the best candidate to achieve this.

It's official, I don't us to get top 4 or win the FA Cup even so I don't mind losing a few games. It seems that's the only way to ensure LVG won't be here next summer, or at least gives the best chance. I'd much rather skip 1 season of CL football to ensure we have a much better chance for success in the long run. It's disgusting that it's come to this but that's what happens when Woodward is just spineless.

There is difference between supporting the team and supporting the manager.

Even fecking Arsenal fans have made their voices heard regarding Wenger.
