I wish we were able to get a deal for him done before the Euros, obviously that isn't going to happen but his transfer value is going to increase so much after the tournament, it will make the current transfer fees being talked about look cheap in comparison.

So Fergie had agreed a contract with Pogba's agent even though Pogba had already signed for Juventus?
At the time RMC reported that in September 2011 Raiola agreed on a contract with United, he was supposed to sign after the international break but instead of signing a new contract he sent Raiola with a counter offer. Apparenly Juventus who were our initial competition for Pogba, stayed in contact with him during all the time that he spent at United and they offered a "better" deal, supposedly more game time.

Antonio Valencia ;)

But yea, I think he'll go there too. Not for his agent's pleasing though, but because he wants to.
I never really believed that, it just seemed to be a paper story to add some mischief the same summer they took Ronnie off us.

Real is the perfect fit for him, he's a big ego showboat like Ronaldo and they are the ultimate glamour club despite Barca owning them for best part of a decade.

I think that the current contract is €4,5M per year but it can definitely be improved.
Plus... why would he leave a club that is getting better and better?
Let's be honest... Buffon is still a beast... our defence is great and next season our full-backs will be Dani Alves-Alex Sandro... can't see many clubs that actually has a better pairing...
We're signing Pjanic too so the midfield can be Marchisio-Khedira-Pogba-Pjanic... I'm a Juve fan so I'm biased but it's not easy to find something way better than that either.
And we have Dybala up-front who is a real gem (and has a good relationship with Paul by the way). :)
He's happy here, the club is competitive and the board doesn't want to sell him.
Let him win at least one UCL with us, then maybe you can have him in 2018... please! :D
You're certainly building/have built a great team. But he could earn double that quite easily.

The change of tone in this thread after the Euros will be fun to watch.

People will realise just how bloody good he is.

This does stand out to be fair. He is a strong character who believes in himself and just knew he was going to be a top player. Naturally he must've thought the players playing ahead of him were rubbish as he probably mugged them off all day in training. Rio said in training they knew he was good enough for the 1st team. Evra also. So did Buffon at who said after 2 weeks of training they knew he was a first team player.
It's obviously a shame that he left and Fergie, who didn't make many slip ups, dropped a clanger here.

He's clearly a lad with a lot of confidence - but he's largely delivered on it so far. He'd be welcome back here as far as I'm concerned.

The only chance we have of getting him is if Barca and Madrid are out of the picture. I keep hearing financial craic about Barca so maybe that will rule them out but the circus of Madrid are a wild card when it comes to the transfer market.

I would love to see us sign Pogba but people are overrating him and some people don't even know the player, they just fantasize a player.
Not we are overrating him, some are. Some just recognise he is one of the best midfield talents around and want us to sign him. If we were linked to Verratti they would also be as happy

So pogba will move for a 100m I guess. Let pogba move for that money to Madrid or Barca or even PSG. We should just Double that amount and buy Verrati . Tell him we will make him the highest paid player behind messi.

Wont happen though ! . Verrati is the only one who is worth paying that kind of money . If we are planning to spend that kind of money then we should try Verrati first , Koke second , Alcantara third and then Pogba.

We'd have to break the transfer record by at least £50m to get him. Not happening.

If I had to give a top 3 of U23 midfielders it would be:

#1 Verratti: He has the ability to control games and make a midfield tactically dominant, he is a great passer and a willing tackler.
#2 Pogba: He only needs possession to change a game, that's an incredible ability.
#3 Saul Niguez: He is an all action midfielder, he can do everything at a high level but Pogba and Verratti are better at what they do.

I wonder who Madrid will flog after the sign Pogba. Kroos or Modric would be nice if one of them was put up for sale by Madrid afterwards

Not saying they aren't impressive but after them and Xhaka it's pretty slim pickings.

People preferring Andre fecking Gomes over Pogba.
I know right? He's overrated...a bit....but he's better than Gomes (uh, we're talking about the guy whose invisible in the COPA tournament right?)

I do understand the reluctance to spending loads of money buying a player who left us for free though. Something doesn't quite feel right about that.
Things to consider.

  • Fricken Leicester City won the cup and the Reds finished 5th.
  • Mourinho is the Devils manager.
  • Manchester normally doesn't sack players.

Things aren't the way they use to be and probably won't be again. Next year the premier League is going to be tougher.

People who don't "feel" right about bringing back a player who left cause he wanted more playing time need to get over it.

Does he make the Reds a better team and does he play a position of need? If the answer is yes he's worth the cost and worth feeling a little off.

Mourinho makes people feel off too.
Oh well.

Why not?

If Real see he's worth that and would spend the money then why "shouldn't" Manchester United?

Does it mean they won't be able to sign another player? NO, cause there is no salary cap. Ibra coming in, Bailly came in, grab the center back from chelsea, grab a right wing (and you've already got Lingard...I know, squad player...and Depay who will need to learn the right or he won't get any playing time)....

I'm still trying to figure out why MONEY should ever be an issue for Manchester. Especially when you could throw Mata in the deal.

Joke's on Pogba. We totally used him to get Carrick to sign his contract.

Take that, Paul.

If Kroos is available, he'll go to City.
Seems City's interest in him has cooled, although might have been related to difficulty in persuading Madrid to sell/him to join, in which case if they got Pogba that could change.

sigh...it's gonna be a long summer it seems.
Going to be a long summer.

Hopefully Madrid come in fast and end this thing saving us the heartbreak. Seems inevitable he will end up at Madrid/Barca.
This does seem like the annual United summer transfer saga. They are sagas because we rarely get the player so as opposed to a "drawn out transfer" it just becomes a saga. Tevez kinda kicked it all off. Sometimes I wonder why we experience these sagas? is it because in terms of click-bait, we are the Real Madrid of England? In Spain, do Real's pursuits seem likes sagas too? I know Marca links them with everyone but to me it appears Real tie up their players quite quickly and we seem to have these saga's every season. When we do actually sign players we tie them up quickly out of nowhere too (Di Maria, Shaw, Falcao, Memphis, Martial etc) hence when we have these sagas, I know these are the ones we won't sign :wenger:

I think a Pogba-Veratti midfield is going to be seen at Madrid in the next 4-5 years. Seems inevitable.

I just can't see this happening. If moving it's to Real Madrid.
Good player but just too much of a circus around him constantly linked with other clubs.
I agree with earlier posts that he's Madrid bound and would be happy to pick up Modric or Kroos if off-loaded.
Would feel slightly uneasy having to pay a huge fee after letting him leave on a virtual freebie.

1) Denial: "But Madrid don't have the funds, may be transfer banned, and are keeping James and Isco"
2) Anger: "Fecking Madrid, funded by the tax-payer, how can they do this, virus etc <shakes fist>"
3) Bargaining: "He's not consistent enough for that price, Gomes would be a better fit for a Mou team"
4) Depression: "<watching Euros> Can't believe he's improved so much, LvG has really screwed us finishing 5th, he would have guaranteed the league :("
5) Acceptance: "Rooney did ok in this attacking midfield role, Mou was right to strengthen other areas of the team"

Think this thread is currently hovering around point 3 in the Kübler-Ross model.

A season ago I was not convinced. I preferred a Verratti profile but gradually I've been changing my mind.
With the possible arrival of Pogba I´ve reading rumors about the departure of Kroos.
Perhaps because of his physical strength I figured he could play as a defensive midfielder , being able to go up and down
Modric ---------Pogba-----------Kroos

120 million seems a bit expensive, plus a 10/15 million euro commission for player/agent + a super contract, which could be 10/12 million net . In any case it seems a good investment. Bale also seemed expensive and over rated in the past.
Zidane has insisted a lot and here it´s not often that a coach gets what he wants.

literally this is the Caf boom bust cycle for slightly unattainable targets like Pogba

Are Madrid really willing to break their wage structure for Pogba? Seems unlikely IMO. Unless Bale and/or Modric get a raise.

Would be an absolutely fantastic signing! But I can't see us buying him after letting him go for next to nothing. He's got Real Madrid written all over him.

Well, I guess that will bring some problems but nothing special . Bale has a renewal offer on the table which has not answered
