If Real Madrid are after him, then the only thing left is him paraded in their shirt.

What does "small step" even mean in this case?

I think if he resigns and is a success, there will not be much embarrassment. It's happened to Barca a few times. It's just that we are the biggest club in the world, so it will always make a better story.

So pogba will move for a 100m I guess. Let pogba move for that money to Madrid or Barca or even PSG.
Mar 19, 2015
Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola has said the Juventus midfielder will not move to Real Madrid, claiming the Spanish giants 'throw away' players.
'If that's the case, we're not interested in Real either. I have never gone to Madrid to tell them: 'Please, would you like to buy Pogba?'
'Real Madrid are a club that is used to buying players like ou buy a facecloth and then throws them away like a facecloth.
Real are a team that sees a player who has six good games at the World Cup and buys him.
We don't want to go to a club like that. We want to go to a club that believes in Paul's potential. I am not closing the door to Real, but I'm not opening it either.'

http://www.espnfc.com/juventus/stor...ed-in-real-madrid-move-says-agent-mino-raiola
Of course you never know with Raiola, but back then he used 'strong words'. Pogba has never stopped going to Manchester and the connection between him and United hasn't vanished yet.

Jose Mourinho, Jul 19, 2015

'Pogba is not to put pressure on people,' Mourinho says.
'Pogba is one of the top players in the world. Pogba goes to any team and improves that team automatically. If he stays at Juventus, Juventus will be very strong again. If he goes somewhere else he will improve immediately a team. This is not our case.'
...
'I think everybody has an interest in Pogba. But there are things you can do and things you cannot do. I love the Eiffel Tower but I can't have the Eiffel Tower in my garden. I can't even have the Eiffel Tower of Las Vegas.'

http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/tran...gba-is-the-eiffel-tower-chelsea-cant-have-him
He definitely rates him, i'm under the impression that at that time the Chelsea board didn't want to fork out ~100 mil for one freakin' player.
I'm having a hunch that they thought Chelsea would walk the league again. :)
Anyway nowadays Jose is pulling the strings and United could definitely do with a huge 'star' player.

My point is i think Pogba is possible, yeah, i could be wrong, at the end it's pure speculation.

reddevilzZ:
'We should just Double that amount and buy Verrati . Tell him we will make him the highest paid player behind messi.

Wont happen though ! . Verrati is the only one who is worth paying that kind of money . If we are planning to spend that kind of money then we should try Verrati first , Koke second , Alcantara third and then Pogba'
I'm not here for debating whether Verratti is our isn't a great player.
I fully agree with your assessment. Outstanding.
My problem comes up when taking a look at his injury record.
Very prone to injuries, imo, so would the league do him any good?
A lot of matches and the Charly Adam's of this world will surely touch him.
Football is still a 'contact sport', especially in England.

Koke is an unbelievable player, he makes teams tick, nothing exceptional,
but no bullshit, would happily take him. Totally with you.
I think the term 'pacey' has been overestimated for quite some time.

But now we're in for having a disagreement.
I live in the neighborhood of munich, so i have watched Thiago a bit.
Some of my friends thought that Pogba once was a a so-called 'vine-player', meaning sparkly in a short video but otherwise lacking the ability to control a match, organise and lead.
Luckily these days they've made up their minds.
Now there's Thiago, on his day the boy is spectacular, but in my view in the recent months that day didn't come often.
Lots of 'Joga Bonito', there has always to be a trick involved,
but overall misplaced a lot of passes and his decision making was poor.
I really think that the boy is arrogant because he has got great ability with the ball at his feet....furthermore injury-prone and physical not strong enough.
I would stay away, for me Pogba is the better player.

But yeah, agree to disagree in the end.

It's hilarious.

We have made small step towards a possible deal for Pogba. But there has been no contact yet with Pogba or Juventus.

I think a Pogba-Veratti midfield is going to be seen at Madrid in the next 4-5 years. Seems inevitable.
Agree. Florentino singed James because he was one of the best players in the world cup. Now, I think it will be the same story with Pogba.

Also, Modric is already 30 years old. If Isco fulfills his potential they could have in a couple of years this midfield:
Isco - Pogba
Verrati
It seems that Juventus would sign Pjanic as Pogba replacement. I guess we will sign Andre Gomes or even Matic.

The chances of us signing Pogba whilst out of the Champions League is remote imo. I reckon the only move he will make this summer is to Spain at either Barca or Real Madrid, anything else is unrealistic. I would prefer we concentrate on other targets so we do not make the same mistakes in the last 2 windows!

Pogba is currently the best in the world in his position and I would absolutely love us to have him now, but I don't think there's any way in the world that he'd choose us if Madrid or Barca can put together the right fee and salary.

Sad fact.

We shouldn't even be having this conversation because he should be plying for us.

Fergie was amazing but he messed up badly with Pogba.

Those are both great players and I'd love to have either one, but I just favour a more athletic midfielder, one that adds power as well as creativity, I think Mourinho does too.

We've not had a powerhouse in our midfield for way too long now, if we only got Zlatan and Pogba now and nobody else I think I'd fancy us for the league, but I can't see Pogba happening.

Fergies biggest mistake now is letting Pogba go.

It was Stam. But I always felt that was due to us replacing him with Blanc. Which was a big mistake as he couldn't handle the pace of the league at his age.

If Pogba or his agent did have any concerns about going to Madrid I bet since Zidane has taken charge he may have a different view now, no doubt Zidane will sweet talk Pogba.

If £95m is what it takes, do it. We would get it back and then some if we ever sell him on to Madrid anyway.

Where would he play?
Casemeiro is doing a fine job there, he's an absolute necessity for Real Madrid.
Simeone:
'For the balance of the side, Casemiro is their most important player, certainly.'
Don't see him on the bench, Madrid's unsung hero!
Kroos was immense in the Champions-League final, he's got everything a modern day midfielder has to bring to the table. A well built 'german' robot, he never ever loses the ball, always finds a solution, Zidane decided to take him off early in that final and it nearly backfired.
Don't see how the former midfielder Zidane benches Kroos.
Modric: Maybe he's the weak link, pretty stupid, but Real-esque.
He's Real's midfield maestro, he's pure magic, everyone knows it. The Mozard of Balkan!
But he's not good enough for marketing reasons and getting older when taking his age into consideration. There are still rumours that his wife isn't happy in Spain, mhh.
Still not convinced that Real would sell him, Zidane must be 100% against that idea.
But with Perez you'll never know. You're definitely in for a ride.

Anyway Pogba must know that it's hire and fire with Perez. So Zidane could be gone very soon.
I think we, Manchester United, stand a chance.
But we must act quickly, Jose has to pick up his phone and start dialing.
Let's see what happens, mate [big grin].

What a strange post, our reported approaches for top level players aren't just part of a media conspiracy to undermine us ffs.

Ed has been for the last few years trying to throw the money around we already know this.
If this story doesn't come back as "United miss out on Pogba" I will apologize to you.

My inner muppet has a feeling we have a small chance with Pogba. Never took the others like Neymar and Messi seriously.

He said he still loves the club and has been talking well about what happened and Fergie tried to fix it by going round to his house but it was too late.

If he does come back he will obviously have to be sold on Jose tuning things around pretty quickly. I also think he may fit in better in the UK. It does seem though that he wants the Madrid Barca step and is looking to play with Messi/Ronaldo and these are coming to an end. I think we have 20-30% chance.

Interesting how Pep's City have pulled out. I guess they've been told unequivocally Madrid Barca.

It will be stupid and vain to spend more than £45m on Pogba. He's not in the Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar class. Not a crucial signing; just a very useful player. This United team currently have too many weaknesses throughout; so at least half the team needs improvement. Then the squad. I have nothing against galacticos; but United have a hard time identifying who they are! The club give Rooney £250k/w; Mata and Scheinstiger
£140/w. Even Young £110/w! RvP's wages were too high as well; one excellent season followed by mediocracy. Meanwhile Leicester win the league paying £35/w to their best, and Spurs highest paid isn't even on £100/w.

This just stinks of management convincing themselves that one player will bring about a totemic magical transformation. I blame Cantona; that was an exception; not the norm. Consider this:

Number of players rated XX or better (whoscored rating)
--------------- >= 7.1 ---- >= 7.7
Spurs ------------ 10 --------- 1
Arsenal ----------- 9 ---------- 2
Leicester --------- 9 ---------- 1
Man. City --------- 8
Liverpool --------- 8
West Ham -------- 6 ---------- 1
Man. United ------ 6

Do Spurs, Arse, City, 'pool, Leicester, West bloody Ham pay their players more than us? No. Yet the best of their squads are rated above us.

One extra thing that might sway Madrid into going with a big bid, Pogba is becoming a more of a marketers dream in each passing month now he's a young man. I believe Beckham really helped them at that time when Madrid wasn't really capitalising off the pitch as you'd expect and Pogba could be another door for Madrid to increase their interest globally.

There will be another thread in September or before then, filled with rage. Discussions on how Ed is a terrible CEO, how critical it is for us to hire a Director of Football before we fade into oblivion and how the Glazers are bleeding us dry because of that one report in Daily Star that said the Glazers told Ed not to make a bid.

It's going to be fun.

Yes, Verratti si a vastly superior central midfielder.

The thing with Pogba is that he has great physical and technical qualities, but he can't make them work together because he doesn't have the brain to control games or the drive to dominate physically.
The thing is... they both can do things the other cannot, so much so, that they would be more likely to be paired together than compared directly. Saying 'CM' when neither of them play the role the other does in their respective team at club or international level, is misleading. I was expecting you to name a midfielder in Pogba's position who was 23 and better than him, as you stated. That player isn't Verratti as if you asked him to affect play in the myriad of ways Pogba can, he'd be as ineffective as Pogba would be at sitting deeper and playing a metronomic game with a rock solid defensive contribution ala Verratti.

If we bought Pogba, he's in the team to be an #8 LCM or #10; you have Verratti, and you're putting him at #6 or right in the middle of the park as a different kind of #8 to Pogba. You would expect next to no defensive contribution, but a massive offensive impact from the former, and pretty much the opposite from the latter.
This is what I mentioned earlier about Pérez, and where I think there's a shot for other clubs: Pérez will be reluctant to pay the astronomical wages for Pogba until he has a breakout tournament - if Pogba is a star of the Euros, I am certain Pérez will bump the wage proposal up to be more in line with what Pogba could get elsewhere.
A season ago I was not convinced. I preferred a Verratti profile but gradually I've been changing my mind.
With the possible arrival of Pogba I´ve reading rumors about the departure of Kroos.
Perhaps because of his physical strength I figured he could play as a defensive midfielder , being able to go up and down
Modric ---------Pogba-----------Kroos

120 million seems a bit expensive, plus a 10/15 million euro commission for player/agent + a super contract, which could be 10/12 million net . In any case it seems a good investment. Bale also seemed expensive and over rated in the past.
Zidane has insisted a lot and here it´s not often that a coach gets what he wants.
You're the only club in the world who could think of using such a defensively irresponsible and erratic player at #6. It would be an absolute waste of a young Pogba as he should be at the other end of midfield hurting opposing teams with his passing, shooting and dribbling ability. Maybe when his legs have gone and he is more able to play a dour and sensible game in 8yrs or so would that be the ideal way to use him.

Unfortunately, Zidane will know exactly how to use Pogba and get the best out of him as they have many similar traits, and interestingly enough, will probably play almost the exact same position at RM should Pogba go there.
If Real Madrid are after him, then the only thing left is him paraded in their shirt.
They have to pay what he can earn elsewhere, or at least come within touching distance of it, which is why I said Pogba would be a fool to go there before being an established superstar in his own right. If he does go beforehand, he's taking less money to do so, which would mean he really, really wants to go there and nobody else stood a chance. Fair play if that's the case, but I don't think it is.

That's ridiculous. I hope we don't fund his move to Real by overpaying for James Rodriguez.

I think the guy is seriously overhyped. As for being the best CM in the world I think is a stretch, plenty of other midfielders out there Id rather have playing for us.

Kroos, Modric, Koke, Verrati. But for Pogbas age and the potential the guy has I would take him back to the club, the fee though is far too high. Then again the club has the money available to buy him, market him correctly and the fee wont see such an outlay. Hopefully Mourinho could get his game to the next level and make him World Class.

Verrati is the best out there and miles ahead of anyone. Koke have shown more than pogba and he seems to boss the mid whenever i see him . I missed out on Saul too who performed better than Pogba.

But the point with pogba is he have the talent and tools to match Verrati. As you said Pogba lacks the the ability to control a match, organise and lead. Thats kinda the same issue with alacantra.. On his day alacantra is more close to verrati but that rarely happens. He is physicall fine for me but injuries is what that block him from taking a position along Koke and Saul as of now. ( could be one of the reason why Bayern bought Sanches though ) . Its just he potentiall very good and have shown the talent too.

The whole football world watched Barca assembling Neymar-Suarez-Messi trio which is an injustice to all other clubs in terms of talent. And something says me to Barca will go after Verrati and Dyabala in a couple of years which could make them almost close to unbeatable.

If we sign Pogba for 100m , its fantastic . He is talent and he will win you titles and moreover his value will alwyas increase. But if we somehow manage to sign Verrati/Koke then thats something special. Its just I think they are better talents and worth the money (not saying pogba is not worth it ).

Note : We should leave the RW spot free for Dyabala next summer. :)

At the time RMC reported that in September 2011 Raiola agreed on a contract with United, he was supposed to sign after the international break but instead of signing a new contract he sent Raiola with a counter offer. Apparenly Juventus who were our initial competition for Pogba, stayed in contact with him during all the time that he spent at United and they offered a "better" deal, supposedly more game time.
Understood cheers. But he was still quite highly rated by Fergie, wasn't he?
