Just watching the the trampolining now. She was in tears as soon as the routine finished, such was the emotion. Well done to her.

A German groom has just been headbutted by one of their horses during the medal ceremony. He's being applauded out of the arena now.

Brazil is a poor country isn't it? People probably have better things to spend their money on.
They are a poor country who have thought it a good idea to spend all that money on staging an Olympic games. I wouldn't be happy if I was Brazilian.

When they were awarded the games in 2009 their economy was booming and everything was great, so at the time it seemed fair enough. In hindsight it's a disaster.

apart from the attendance, these games look on the surface to be running pretty smooth and without any major problems, will be interesting to see how much they lose, If I remember correct did the Olympics not bankrupt Montreal

They still have a huge upper class, but they aren't really inspired or motivated to attend. They aren't into most of the sports, getting good attendance was always going to be a huge challenge for them. Without doubt a vanity project by the government, and it's massively unpopular with the masses. My wife is brasilian, she has travelled all around the globe watching formula1 and football, her parents and her just aren't interested in the Olympics, the same with their friends.

The fact that Brazil isn't good at many other things than football is a good point of course. That's a difference to USA, England/Britain, Australia and China who've all hosted the games in the last 32 years, they're good in a lot of sports.

Totally agree. They will probably have some interest/success in beach volleyball, volleyball, and handball, as team sports, and a handful of individual events. Track & Field just isn't there thing as well, generally. A big generalisation on my part, but as a host city/country I don't think they're engaged, exaggerated by the economic backdrop of the arse falling out of the economy.

Is Bauje the former drugs cheat the French had in 2012 whilst complaining about our teams overly round wheels?
