Can someone who undertands rugby please explain to me how there can be such a huge difference between gold and silver? I thought GB was quite good at Rugby?

Isn't this the kind of hammering when 1st plays unneeded?

Don't really watch 7s but from what I understand Fiji take it very seriously and are the world number ones, whereas the GB team was cobbled together specifically for these games and not really expected to do a huge amount.

Even then the gulfs probably not as big as its looked this game, GB just made a string of simple errors up front and got hit hard. This second halfs probably a better representation of the quality difference.

OK makes sense. Thanks!

I get that but it's not totally different.

Anyways why such a big difference between gold and silver teams?
Not really a rugby man myself but they also say South Africa were the second favourites. GB's semi final win was a bit of an upset.

Am watching the ladies hockey final: Japan vs GB.

Some very pretty ladies on both teams!

^ Just to clarify, it's not the Final.

The hockey players are damn tough though: back in 2012 Walsh sustained a fractured cheekbone during the tournament and was passed fit in a little over week.

pretty shocking , you would think people would want to watch a once in a lifetime even in their own country.
London 2012 was like nothing else, it was the best sporting even that i had either been present at or followed. I regret not volunteering to be as a Games Maker. Even just walking around one of the Olympic venues was something.

The 2,000 capacity McDonald's was a right faff mind you. ;)

That women's 100m freestyle final was intense, the Campbells got it all wrong, Simone Manuel and Penny Oleksiak tie for gold. The first black woman to win an olympic gold in swimming, and a 16 year old Canadian.

16 year old Canadian Penny Oleksiak just tied for gold and now has four medals in these games. She has one more event as well.

Phelps is going to get rightly deserved credit for basically solidifying himself as the greatest Olympian ever tonight, but Oleksiak has been a great story during these games

Her and Ledecky have been stand outs in the women swimming events. Poor Missy Franklin.

Money is the reason them and a lot of the other island nations aren't that good at the 15 man game, It was great to see them win their first ever medal at a sport they love.
I would have thought it is more to do with their tiny populations and the fact that the other major rugby nations don't take 7s seriously.

Since I know basically feck all about gymnastics, is Simone Biles' physique that common among the girls competing ? She seems like so much stronger than all the other competitors.
