Well there's one simple thing to think about and that's genetics. Giggs at 35 years was winning PFA player of the year and Scholes was a part of title winning team the year before his retirement. Both started very early and played at tough positions in the field.

Why are you talking about Mourinho in a player performance thread??? The manager fielded a weakened side and wanted to nick a goal which backfired. But, this doesnt change the fact that Rooney was shambolic this game. Rooney this season has had bad performances but always contributed (he has 10 assists this season which is the 2nd highest in the team!).

Rooney has been declining for a long time, but i never would have thought that he would get even worse than what he was like at the beginning of the season. It's sad really.
