Couldn't believe it took till 2-0 to bring him on in a game he should have started

I like what Jose is doing with Rashford and Martial but he's getting the games wrong imo

Rom giving it to Martial...class.
I don't think it was Lukaku's pen to give away. He missed a pen so he's already down the pecking order.

Shame he didnt perform against Basel, needs to cement that place. He has got a lot of ability.
Or maybe the manager should understand that attacking players especially young wide players can be very inconsistent and just put more trust in him instead of taking him out of the starting line up each time he fails to score a goal?

When Rashford starts then Martial has more of an impact and vice versa

Weird to see but keeps them both happy in their roles.

Shite penalty all the same :nervous:. Although one could say he waited for the keeper to move first so can't complain with that. Looks great off the bench this season. Better than the couple of times he's started. Think Mourinho is doing well with him so far.

Hes just better than Rashford. Not that its a slight on the (younger) youngster. Martial is a more defined version of the footballer you expect (hope) Rashford to be in 1-2 years time.

Its got to the stage where he deserves to be given a sustained run of games now to try and make that position his own. 5 to 10 games and if he still can't do it, we need new wideman next summer.

Rashford and Lingard being ahead of him in the pecking order is taking the piss
Lingard isn't ahead of him. He came in earlier for pure tactical reasons. Martial and rashford are abt on par in the pecking order with rashford slightly edging it. (I'm talking abt how Jose is using them.)

I think that was the penalty from Hazard book of penalties. Waits for the keeper to go before striking it the other side.

Showed the difference between him and Rashford yet again. Productive and he was determined that penalty was going to be his.

Feel sorry for him Lingard got on over him as we know how poor he is. Glad he got the chance to come on and get his goal though.

Gong to be hard for Tony to start games if he keeps giving those kind of performances off the bench.

Lingard's substition was tactical to halt Everton's growing influence in the game.
It doesn't mean that Martial falls behind Lingard in the pecking order.

I'm fine with him and Rashford splitting the games if it means they get to start weekly, but at some point Jose will have to decide on one as a permanent fixture and Martial should be that man if he plays to his full ability. He's Robben, Ribery, Hazard level talent.

He's absolutely lethal on the break, his dribbling absolutely killed 2 of their defenders.

Also really happy Mourinho pointed to let him take the pen, he's rebuilding his confidence which is fantastic to see.

O no I can totally see why Jose did it, but for me I would of went with the attacking option rather than the defensive one, but that's the difference between Jose and the regular fans I suppose. Worked out for the best in the end so cannot complain. Hopefully now opens the door for Martial to start the next game.

Lingard sub is nowhere defensive. He directly replaced having-mare Rashford role. Lingard at times stayed further up the pitch like a forward which not his natural position. He was meant to stretch play vertically. Before the second goal, Lingard could have made at least a goal, if not for the stonewall penalty call was missed by the ref.

Martial just got unlucky with his starting games. This game where we scored early and Everton had to come out and leave space between the lines is perfect for him. Against Basel, not so much.

Happy to see him grab that ball and put the penalty away. All he needs to do is be patient, and when he's called upon, do his very best. Would love to see him and Rash on at the same time. Maybe Jose can try it in one of our league cup games, assuming we progress in that competition.
