Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

I remember checking the Teletext for Ronaldinho news. Aww what a time that was. I was like 12 at the time. Major disappointment when I saw a top story that he agreed to join Barca. I was nearly in tears.

City are definitely not the best team in Europe. The fact that the English league has been a shadow of itself for a long time means that people overrate the best team in the PL.

Their forward line is Sterling, Aguero/Jesus, Sane. Which is 3 young talents and one experienced world class player. Barcelona have Messi in extremely good form, PSG have Neymar and Cavani who are ridiculously good. All 3 players would improve City's team significantly.

Their midfield is their strongest area; but Barca still have Busquets going strong and an Iniesta rested in league games due to Coutinho's arrival. Paulinho is also showing that he's a very good player. Bayern also have a strong midfield; Alcantara is a majestic player; Vidal and Martinez are veterans.

City's defence is their weakest area; and sacrifice defensive qualities for the sake of the system. Guardiola defenders are exposed again and again when they cannot dominate a game because they must play in compromising decisions in order to retain possession.

City have yet to play a team with the same fire power as them, and as a result they have looked amazing. Because that is what Guardiola does; when he has the better team he dominates the game.

If we sign Alexis, get a solid midfielder during this window and have injured players back, do not bet against Jose taking City out in a two legged champions league knockout battle or a CL final if they both make it. Just saying.

Nevertheless,I do think one of the usual suspects or PSG will win it this year.

Completely agree. They've been bought by the vip hospitality at Eastlands and the easy press access.

It's an absolute scandal that a deplorable regime has bought up our entire league, yet the press prefer to jump on the ABU bandwagon in pursuit of cheap clicks.

Absolutely 100% correct.

'Good for football' what city are doing they say. fecking shameless.

All the while pumping out stories on the front pages of the antics of oil rich dictators and/or endless oil wars.

Sorry to get somewhat political but the sheer nerve of them and how few people seem to actually see it for what it is really bothers me.

Totally agree. It happened a few seasons ago as well - I remember Robbie Savage stating then that he believed city were the 'best club side on Earth'.

They are good, and are also highly overrated. When they start beating Barca, PSG, Real, Bayern and winning CLs and winning back to back PLs at the same time, ok. 'Til then, it's just talk.

As long as he doesn't act like a little child the way he did last season.

Don't worry about that. Sanchez always acts like a man when his pay is good. But be very worried once he starts asking for a pay rise. :D

Just noticed this from another thread. Bolded part ended up being absolutely correct. Seems we’ve been negotiating with Arsenal and AS for at least couple of weeks. Post was made on the 30th of December. Sounds promising.

I mean, if Sanchez’s heart is set on City why waste everyone’s time?

@antohan is ITK nowadays

Its wishful thinking to rationalize Sanchez choosing the comparably hard path, even though you might argue there's greater glory at the end of it. He's just had years of underachieving frustration with one stalling big club. He's unlikely to choose to decamp to another. He'll see a few post prime years of major success at City as his career's reward.

He was already at Barcelona where he was winning plenty but still decided to leave for more game time and prominence to a club that had won nothing in years. Will a Barcelona light under the same manager, who didn't use him very well the first time around, hold such a massive appeal to him over us? We can offer him his last payday as well as Oil City, same chance of winning trophies in the next three or four years and a more important role in the team than what he'll get at City.

This is not my thinking because we are heavily linked to him in the last few days. I replied the below to a poster on Tuesday:

May be that is a positive and we'll sign him out of the blue.

I am actually confused why Sanchez would want to go and play under Pep again when Pep couldn't find the best use of him at Barcelona. If money is not his only consideration, at 29, he should go look for a club where he'll treasured more than to a club where he'll be another player among a bevy of attacking players. Bayern, Juventus, Chelsea and us are surely better options for him than City?

We are not a stalling big club. We are a club that is getting closer to the top after a few dull years. Sanchez could very well be one or two of the last missing pieces of the jigsaw that takes us back to the top.

Can’t believe so many of these folks make an actual living from this shit

I long for the days of signings out of no where like Andy cole what a day that was!!
Tbf, the Lukaku signing came out of nowhere as did Falcao. Lukaku wasn't even really considered a target, a few rumblings in the press and deal was agreed a day or two after. Falcao was a deadline day surprise that barely anybody knew about until it happened.

That was traumatizing.

I remember seeing it as a done deal with Ronaldinho getting Beckham's 7 jersey and all. It was a real shock when he signed for Barca. Although then we did get a decent, yet unknown individual to have the vacated number 7 instead...

The Rom transfer was glorious, and the way he hit he ground running just made it even better. That's my fave post-Fergie signing actually.

The Falcao one, though... that was weird from the get go - literally everything about that whole transfer was a surprise.

From him signing out of the blue on deadline day, to it turning out it was just a loan, to the utterly bizarre nature of his performances (falling down a lot), from him then being signed by José for Chelsea, and then going back to Monaco and doing ok again!

Weird. Seems like a dream or something.

If nothing else comes from these rumours at least I've learned that Sanchez only follows 36 people on twitter and 3 of them include 2 members of One Direction and, my personal fave, Richard Marx.

Arsenal fans speculating about a potential Sanchez and Martial swap deal just tops this saga off with absolute impossible expectations. So funny to see the mindset arsenal fans have when they say "martial and 20m for sanchez is good for both clubs". Wow. Theres nothing there in Arsenal for Martial and it would take £100m+ and Martial actually wanting to go to Arsenal for us to even blink.

I reckon Wenger would demand a swap deal for sanchez. Martial probably.

Sanchez for Martial is just so stupid. There's no way in hell we will ever let go of Martial given the way he's raised his game this season. He can take Mhiki or leave it.

Arsenal fans talking about Martial in exchange!

WUT :lol::wenger:

Lower your sights sweet Arsenal fans, keep lowering them.

Surely Arse fans know by now that it doesn't work like that with us...?

We buy RvP, you buy Welbeck. That's how it works.

Mkhi and cash for Sanchez would be a really good deal for everyone involved I reckon.

Mkhi would do better there - less pressure, tech footy, more of a soft, nurturing manager.

Asking for Martial is just silly. I'm sure the Arse board knows as much.

Strangely enough, it does just seem like a dream.

I've seen nothing so far to change my opinion that Sanchez will still be an Arsenal player on 1st Feb, then join City in the Summer for nothing and get himself a hefty signing-on fee.

City know he wants to go nowhere but there so why would they stump up £35m when he's going nowhere else anyway?

Not to mention they took Silvestre from us as well, so they do owe us a Sanchez to make it even. :wenger:

Some united fans still haven't got to grips with the manager we have. He is most decorated manager currently working in the game; and has a network of agents and contacts which makes him heavily entrenched in the industry. Believe it or not, top players want the opportunity to work with him.

We took Lukaku from under Chelsea's noses, we got first dibs on Matic because Mourinho was contacted by his agent before everyone else, we got Pogba despite him having an offer for Madrid.

And yet some want Jose gone soon for some bizarre reason or other. As far as I can see, he's doing a good job despite some mistakes here and there. We are no longer mugs in the transfer market as well and with potential targets like Sanchez, we will soon be able to challenge the top teams.

It was in 2003.

The rest of the world saw the news on the Internet.

Silly question, but doesn’t he primarily play on the left?
For Arsenal, yes. He played a bit as a CF last year as well. At Barca, he mainly played on the right (which, alongside up front with Di Natale, he mainly played at Udinese, too, I believe). He's a very versatile player.

Is the general consensus that this is going to be wrapped up quickly one way or the other or is it going to run on until the end of the window? Not sure i can take it dragging out.

For Arsenal it makes no sense to sell him until the end of the window. As long as his performance level doesn't drop he can play another 3/4 games

It seems that there are 2 possibilities. Either we sign him in January or he waits until the summer for City.

If we're signing him it will surely be in the next few days. If we're not we'll find out something soon enough. Either way you'd imagine this will be resolved in the next few days.

What have I missed?

Basically:
-DiMarzio claimed yesterday that we were now seriously in the mix
- Guardian started running with it too, using DiMarzio's puppet, FabRomano, as the journo fronting it

Today:
- DiMarzio following up from yesterday by saying United now are favourites
- Wenger refuses to comment on it during his press conference
- Pep refusing to comment on it, saying it's not important blah blah
- City briefing the press about Alexis being a money grabber, despite the issue seemingly is that they can't agree a fee with Arsenal
- Mou rounding it off by talking about him despite saying he doesn't want to talk about him, typical of him when he's interested in a player

BBC
Alexis Sanchez: Man City prepared to miss out on Arsenal forward over fee

Manchester City are prepared to risk missing out on Alexis Sanchez - possibly to Manchester United - rather than pay Arsenal's £35m asking price.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42668562

Simon Stone on a podcast

"I now know and other people now know that Manchester City are setting a limit they are prepared to pay arsenal...I don't think it's changed that Sanchez will leave this month and City expect him to leave this month. The question becomes is his desire to leave over playing for pep. He wants to play for pep but City are not going to budge on the fee."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05tqflk

Jose on Sanchez:

Mourinho: “What we believe is there are some players in the football world if you have the chance to sign them in January, March or July, you have to try, and that's it."

Jose Mourinho: "In relation to Alexis Sanchez, I don't say a word. The only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that, he's an Arsenal player and I feel I shouldn't say much more than this."

My train was late for 6 hrs yesterday due to bad weather and fog. This transfer discussion kept me awake. Though to add my two cents, I think we should go all in for this deal, even if that includes swap deal with Mikhitaryan. We have to get that player as such signing will up our chances of a decent champions league outing.

Agreed, I don’t particulary care how much it costs if we get him. Plus if Mkhi goes that’s even better.

Christ.

Yes and we are in a position to bargain as the player in question is letting his contract expire and also we have a prize for arsenal. A player that very much suits the arsenal style of game. If we are serious, there is more chances of us getting the player than city. Also pep could not use him properly in Barcelona.

Spot on

well aguero has been known to pick up injuries pretty regularly and Jesus has done his ligament right which again is an injury that is best not to rush people back from

Well Pep has magically found a way to get a ligament injury recovered in less than a month, but that’s for a different forum I suppose...
