Really enjoyed this. You can see he lives and breaths football. Very knowledgeable. I remember seeing something a while back with him and Juan where Juan was saying he never stops talking about football and brings up moments from games for the 80s and stuff.

Pretty much my favourite player at the moment.

The art of shithousery.

:lol::lol:

Cult leader one day.

One of my favorite things about him are his interviews.
If the reporter suggests "The team is wonderful" or anything like that. He would half agree and keep reminding we haven't done anything to be proud of. Next game should be our focus and all.
Yet, when asked about his team mates he keeps saying "They are the best in the world". Be it for Valencia or be it for Matic.

I fecking love him. Has been my favourite player for his stay here, due to his passion and performances in big games. That being said, under Ole he has been just as effective, if not more in games against the smaller teams too.

Guy is a fecking proper warrior, with the technical ability to boot.

It’s an absolute travesty the way he’s been handled by both Van Gaal and Mourinho. Aside from an iffy start to last season, he’s always been on it when given regular football, especially in big matches.

He's absolute class. Him and Pogba should be shoo ins in the midfield. Matic is the one who maybe considered replaceable but he's been good too. Ander just adds so much bite to the midfield and is very underrated on the ball. He ain't no Xavi or Iniesta but he can sure as hell find a nice pass and tick over play very very well. His ability to break up play and find interceptions is World Class. I think with a more reliable RB and RW that we would see an even better him.

I thought he did ok today. Didn't win as many tackles as he normally does and that is why almost all of Arsenals attacked were from our right.

He went about his job quietly but he was very good tonight. Covers the whole pitch really well and offers plenty going forward as well, its just not about winning the ball back.

Another gritty performance but his composure on the ball is underrated, I thought he used it well today, he's such an essential cog in that midfield set-up.

I fecking love a bit of Ander Herrera. Several of our players have a level a naivety that I think gets exposed a little when they come up against some of the more experienced campaigners who know their way around a game. Herrera though has so much of that canniness that he almost counter-balances the rest of the team on his own.

I was reminded a little while back that he actually played as a 10 for Bilbao and looked up a video of them against Real expecting to see young Ander in a different light, perhaps a willowy but technically tidy and creative playmaker type maybe in a Mata mould...

Nah. Half the video was just him shithousing Xabi Alonso while looking like an impish 12-year old with an already mastered "What did I do, ref?" face.

He's vital to the way Ole wants to play, hopefully he can stay fit and firing for the rest of the season.

Most improved player under ole, in my opinion. Though the player was always there, he just wasn't played or given the confidence

What??? He was one of our best players in 16/17?

There's always been a good player in there, but he was constantly benched by managers. Herrera is the type of player that doesn't throw a fuss and seems to just be happy contributing. A model professional.

Yes. No matter if hes playing or not he's always said exactly what fans want to hear.

I wonder if hes been a bit too nice though and maybe, if he didnt, should have behind the scenes insisted that he should be playing. Maybe he has, we just dont know, but if hes anything like his interviews maybe he needed to be a bit more blunt and insist on getting more chances

He needs to learn to play the ball forward instead of immediately playing it back or sideways. BUT I think its the positions he gets in is causing him to do this which is a good and a bad thing. He is definitely United material but would like to see a bit more from him like spreading the play etc

So many years he was wasted sitting on the bench for inferior players under LVG and Mourinho. Shame.

Not nice. Simply realistic. He's not a supreme talent, just a player that applies himself and is a student of the game. Herrera doesn't really work in most midfield setups, but because we have Pogba who is a supreme talent and has ridiculous attacking output for a midfielder it works.

For example, if you look at City's midfield they use KdB as their box to box and Silva as their advanced midfielder. Pogba is our advanced midfielder and he can go toe to toe with Silva, but Herrera can't hold a candle to KdB. Herrera's isn't a world class player and he knows it, he's an honest and humble guy seemingly.

He'd play in Fernandinho's role and no he wouldnt do as well but he'd be okay. City play with 2 #10s, they are the strange midfield set up not us.

Matic plays in Fernandinho's role in front of the back 4...Herrera is sort of stuck in a middle ground of being a DM and CM. He was also an AM at Bilbao. He has no position seemingly, and that's why he seems to never cement his place. He's a jack of all trades.

LVG did use him at times. Mourinho treated him like a reserve player.
In fairness Jose had Herrera playing really well in his first season, was our player of the season I think. Next season went to shit when he tried to play Matic and Herrera together.

Eh?

I just said "the player was always there". Think we're agreeing on it?

Anyway, he's been great. Does a little bit of everything in and looks a shoe in now, with matic the one who will be upgraded

Feck me this is a delusional post. Herrera's best season was under Mourinho. To give LVG credit for using Herrera is nonsensical, he scolded him for trying to go forward and shoot the ball instead of passing sideways.

They both play DM. Today for example both Ander and Matic's average position were in our own half 5-10 yards in front of the CBs

Ander is slightly forwards yes. He's still playing a holding midfield role

Playing right in front of the CB alone is very different when you dont have as much help. Thats why Fernandinho is so good at the job, he's doing it alone. So yes Ander could do the job, just not as well as Fernandinho. But then again there arent many who could do as well.

Yes their positions are similar, but the roles are different. Herrera does much more tracking and covering in wide areas while Matic does in central areas which is more typical of DMs. 9/10 times Matic will be the one dropping into centre back to cover a space, Herrera on the hand will be dropping into full back. Herrera also has more license to go forward.

It is a good partnership and credit to Ole for making the 4-2-3-1 work with Matic-Herrera holding.

Nah Ander gets into CB to get in the way of a cross more than Matic does
