Needs to sort out his passing and slightly concerned he may not have the quick feet to play that role for us. But lets see, it was a much better performance but still not a dominating one, hopefully its just the beginning.

Mixed bag on the ball, but he’ll get up to speed.

His body positioning when fronting up oncoming players is phenomenal.

He gave us so much more control in transitions today and it was brilliant to see. Wasn't his finest game on the ball, but you can see the quality is there.

Really excited to see him kick on now

He's not comfortable with his back to play. Similar to Fred.

We'll need another midfielder with him, who can take the first pass from the CBs on the turn. Modric did that for Madrid, Thiago does it for Liverpool and Bernardo does it for city. Just a difficult skillset to find though

Dunno about MOTM, but aside from a few bad moments including their goal, he very much gave the impression of starting the find his stride otherwise today. In the first half especially, almost every Everton attack just seemed to die as soon as they went anywhere near him.

Looking forward to him getting a run of games.

Bit of a mixed bag today. Still clearly getting used to the pace of the league but is showing glimpses of his talent.

Keep him in the team

I don’t agree with his MOTM , a little bit sloppy with passing at times

Mentality monster. After that mistake , he showed no signs of self pitying. Showed for the ball always, tried all kinds of passes. If it was Mctominay he’d have spent the rest of the game hiding behind people and playing square and sideways balls.
Would like to see him coupled with Fred though, I feel that combination could work. Especially in harder more testing games. Everton’s midfield are very poor technically so it was ok having him in there as the point of the diamond but against better sides we probably need to adjust a bit.

It was meant to be Frenkie. Little deferred wage living his best newly engaged life in Barcelona wanker

It seems like people are expecting Carrick type of performances from a player who's just arrived, but when Mctominay does two tackles per game it's a world class performance.

Thought he was very good today, his passing and positioning is on another level to Mcto.inay and Scott should never play ahead of him, it's not even a competition.

Some wayward play, but won so much ball in the middle, and mopped up so much of the loose ball too

Even managed to lose the ball to just go and win it back just for the challenge of it and laid it off perfectly to Ronaldo

Class act, will only get better, just blooding into the pace of the game. Once he is firing at full flight the whole team will feel so much more comfortable. Gives us a control we have lacked for years.

Although we've been short on quality in the middle for a few years, still this performance was anything but satisfactory.

The only encouraging thing was that he won the back at least as many times as he lost it.

His short passing is concerning. He gives away passes that he should make easily. His assist for Ronaldo was class. He also made some good tackles and interceptions. Never MoTM, but he definitely did better in the 2nd half than he did in the 1st.

I don't think it ever was, Cas came in not sharp, Scott responded well but it was always only a matter of time until Casemiro started, you don't buy him to do otherwise.

Hes still getting used to the pace of the game he’ll improve with a run of 4/5 games

There's quite a few players who we could potentially target for that role. And if we can get the tight player in for the role in question which for me is a role that I would describe as the deep-roaming playmaker rather than the deep lying playmaker, then we'll look an even better team and go up levels.

hope he will get better. made too many sloppy passes, takes too long to pass the ball. MOTM a bit of a stretch.

I agree — it’s the one position I want more than anything else, really. A proper no.8 who can actually pass the football across the short areas of the field and dribble a bit under the pressure.

I never quite saw how good at passing he is. Tough game for him, mixed bag but class is evident. We need to trust him because he will be the foundation to build on in next 2 years.

Completely agree with you, and I'm impatiently waiting for that player to arrive and become a ball magnet in all phases of play.

Why is he not allowed to be in the opposing box in corner kicks? Sounds so stupid not to utilize his aerial threat, even in open play there seems to be an imaginary line he can't cross compared to how he played in RM.

He's making mistakes but you can tell he's starting to shine at the same time. Needs to keep playing and I'm confident he'll come good in no time.

Real mixed bag, however he showed his class far more today than in any other performance so far. Getting into the groove now hopefully.

Classy player, not fully up to speed with the rhythm of the PL. Careless mistakes aside, he offered an assured presence in the middle of the park, some fine interceptions and a beautiful assist (albeit after his own fckup 10 secs earlier)

He tries to play in a higher tempo than he himself can maintain at the moment. But there are some promising signs, let's just sort out the brainfarts and we're golden.

Really don't think he suits Ten Hag's bread and butter system - but clearly he's good enough as a footballer to adjust.

That's the difference, others over the years haven't got that raw ability to be good enough to tweak their game. With more starts and more minutes, we'll stop noticing him and that's usually a good sign when you're talking about someone playing in his position.

Really liked everything about the assist, from the shit pass to the recovery to the ball into Ronaldo.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this confused as to whether a performance was good or bad?
