I remember when we signed him, and we were all like ‘who the feck?!’ and ‘how muckin’ fuch?!!’ And I remember his debut - I listened to it on the radio in the car on the way back from Burton or Derby on the A38, I forget which or why I was up there. He scored his goal and it was so exciting.
The only player I’ve ever really wished we had instead of a rival was Thierry Henry. And in Anto I thought we had signed out own Henry, but he’s never really done anything of note since that first goal. He’s never seemed to kick on or get into a groove. And now he’s made of glass.
It’s sad, but it’s time to go. Pass the torch. Wout fecking Weghorst has been more use this season, which tells us all we need to know. I hope we can find a taker and a young striker to back up Kane or Osimhen. We need goals, and they aren’t coming reliably from Anto anymore. :(

Um. No. What I'm saying is that this specific multi millionaire, who has spent most of the last five years not playing while picking up 200k a week, probably isn't feeling as bad as you seem to think. Also, what on earth from his behavior or demeanor gives you the idea that he loves playing football?
Did not know you were a body language expert and also Martial's therapist.

It's not bloody cancer. He has twinged his hamstring and is in the privileged position to still get paid by his employer and not have to rely on statutory sick pay. I can't play golf anymore after slipping a disc in my back, I loved to do that, shall we hold a pity party for me?
Ummm there's a difference from having a pity party and just not insulting his character? Nothing wrong with being annoyed at his fitness. Calling him insults on the back of getting injured is what isn't ok.

He did forgo a sizeable chunk of his wages at one point in order to get a loan to Sevilla, so unless this was merely an act of charity I suspect he prefers playing football to not doing so.

Fair, I wouldn't have a clue about his character. I wish him the best in getting the injuries under control, but it sadly seems doubtful.

I feel sorry for him. This is probably the end of his career now. It’s like Louis Saha situation. The body can’t take more even though he has so much talent and skills.

Id say well above 95% of people who devote their entire lives to become professional footballers, love the sport. It'd have to be something like less than 0.1% of footballers who genuinely don't care for it but somehow hit that random spot of playing it despite not liking it much, being ridiculously good at it but then devoting their lives to it anyway.

But anyway. Players have their goals and their aspirations. Just because they have money doesn't mean they don't get frustrated when their bodies let them down. To think differently is downright mad, they are human beings too and somebody earning a lot of money doesn't make them anything different.

And people think a striker isn't top priority. We genuinely don't have anyone to play the position unless we move rash from his best and most preferred position

Absolutely ludicrous that people think martial is actually bothered about missing games at this stage. To be clear I am not saying he fakes injury, I just don't think he gives a toss whether he's fit or not.
You’re chatting shit.

Ten Hag:
"First place, frustrated for himself," Ten Hag said. "He's the player who is most in the gym, he doesn’t want to be there, he wants to be on the pitch.

Especially considering what he had been doing to come back from different injuries again and again over last few years, it is a huge mental setback for him to overcome this new injury. Really a sad situation.

Yeah all evidence points to his body not being cut out for the daily rigors of professional football. Been 3 years of constant injuries.

What the feck? Back on the treatment table?

And people think we can challenge for top honors when this guy is barely able to play more than a handful of games being being injured AGAIN.

GET RID !!!!

I don’t understand why people are attacking him like he is intentionally getting injured
His body is giving up on him like Louis Saha’s did.
It must be soul destroying for him and I feel for him as no matter how hard he tries his body just can’t take it
We need another striker or 2 anyway and it would be almost impossible to sell Martial now anyway with his injuries.

I don’t think I need to feel sorry on someone who’s getting 13m per year. He needs to go.

Sad. He’ll be a big miss. His injury issues mean he can never be relied upon. The comparisons to Saha are fair.

The less said about those people blaming him or saying he doesn’t care, the better. Scummy comments.

Let’s hope we address the striker situation in the summer.

Garnacho - Rashford - Sancho front three for the final probably. Unless we go Casemiro, Fred, Eriksen in midfield and Bruno on the right. Which would probably be my choice. Garnacho left, Rashford up top.

Intriguing.
What's the threshold of wealthiness one has to reach to no longer deserve sympathy from their fellow humans?
There are full time contract employees out there who works 100x harder, work more than 8 hours a day and only getting 20k-60k per year or even less or even can’t afford to buy food for his family. If I’m getting 5m or 10m per year working only few hours or even not working because I’m getting a hamstring injury and still getting paid. I would fecking love it.

I don’t know what country you were born, but I was born in a poor country so I had witnessed what poor actually is and how fecking sad it is not be able to feed your family, and that’s what I called sad. Being injury prone but getting paid 13m per year is not sad.

You can work hard to become an elite football pro player. Then, you will be paid handsomely.

I am surprised he lasted this long (few games)...

If we are a club serious to progress, he is the first on the list to be thrown out....bloody hell 200k+ a week for someone like him.....we are idiots

Comparing apples and oranges. I get your point but Anto is a professional footballer, compare him with other footballers not factory workers, managers or labourers. It’s a silly comparison.

These footballers are just employee with bigger paid. Why can't I have the right not to feel sorry? It's not like I'm insulting him.

Some of the comments in here are disgusting. Sure, he's injury prone. Unfortunately, some players are, but it's certainly not something they ask for. Jones and Bailly, to name a couple, are the same. These players are professional footballers. The percentage of people to even make it at a professional level, nevermind playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, is very slim. It's a short career and it's their livelihood. They want to be playing every game possible!

Martial will just be as gutted as some of the fans in this thread are. Of course he would want to play in the FA Cup final, but if his body's not allowing him to, then unfortunately, he can't do anything.

From a tactical point of view, it's a big shame, because Martial is by far our best striker with his back to goal, which could have been key against City. That, and I think Rashford is so much effective coming from the left.

Going forward, I'm not sure what will happen, but I'd keep him here, as I can't see us getting two strikers. I don't think there's any need. Buy a starting striker, which will hopefully play the majority of games, especially in the league, and have Martial and Rashford as back up.

Martial doesn't help himself, his general mood and attitude makes a lot of fans dislike him, but you're right in what you say, anyone who plays at the PL level is in the top 2 or 3% of their profession and are rewarded accordingly

Does the PL account for 2-3% of professional footballers? That doesn't sound right.

If you think everyone out there are blessed to be an elite footballer based on that then you're naïve.
I think you should target the “unfair” system which enables the elite pro players earning much more than regular people, rather than attacking those players who earn the high pay by being an elite player, no?
