We are Man Utd. We can't build a team for the future in expense of current season. We always must look short term and long term at the same time. Spending premium money on him was insane stuff to do while not having decent striker.

This is PL. Top 5 is hard to get. You can't, just can't go into season without having proving goal scorer.
feck the phrase "we are Man United". Guess what. Manchester United has been a fecking mid table team for a decade now. You aren't going to rebuild and challenge actual top teams by skipping the steps needed. Because we don't have the most money anymore. We don't have the best facilities anymore. We don't have the best players anymore. We don't have the best staff anymore. We are playing catch up against teams with superior resources, facilities, players & staff. The phrase "we are man United" is such a dumb phrase because it keeps people stuck in the past thinking they have a god given right to be challenging always. It's not gonna happen if you don't put the steps in to actually challenge.

His last few chances for us were him picking up a mistake from the defence to go through on goal today, sticking his foot out from a rashford shot from distance and that solo goal v galatasaray. I can't think of many other chances that have been created for him.

With the way we play and our lack of creativity, we basically need him to have as close to a 100% conversion which is not gonna happen. Otherwise we need to spot his runs, get crosses to him early or create three four chances for him per game for him to bang in the goals.
The closest thing to a chance created for him he has had recently from what I remember is the ball Rashford played across goal against Sheffield United where he was a half step slow getting there. Thats all I can think of in terms of actual build up play leading to a potential chance. Meanwhile Haaland had 3 sitters of which he only converted 1, a penalty, and an assist from following up on a rebound from a sustained spell of pressure. Haaland in our team today would if anything have probably been worse overall as Rasmus is actually a better presser than him. If we are dominating games, creating chances, and he is still not contributing, then maybe it is time to worry, but at this point I can't think of a single striker who would look good in our current set up.

If VAR had to be called in should Hojlund have gone down, it would have been for a possible red card against the defender as the last man. Remember that we got Forest's Joe Worrall sent off because of a similar play.

He didn't deserve to be subbed off at all. The kid feeder is the one who should have been given the boot.
Probably a good thing City didn't get someone sent off as it would have been even more embarrassing if City worked us and still had more possession down to 10 men as that's likely what would have happened.

One of the few players i appreciate in the club. If we can get everything around him to work, he'll turn out great. I dont care if he's not a top tier striker right now, we're terrible anyways - we need to fully rebuild our team and by the time we're (hopefully) able to compete, im certain Hojlund has taken the steps necessary to be a proper forward for a top club.

Find the negativity really surprising...I must have been watching another game. To me he looked strong, quick and hungry against the best defence in the league. Was feeding off absolute scraps. I definitely think he'll come good and think that those writing him off at this stage are mental.

Kids quality you can tell, still a bit raw but he’s just not getting the service. There was a moment when McTominay should’ve passed it to him with a clear opportunity on goal but never played it.

I like him but should not start for a team aspiring for top 4, let alone a title. Would have been second or third choice during the days Sir Alex was in charge.

Perhaps even out on loan.

I agree. He’s got everything needed to become a top striker and importantly his mentality seems to be right, as much as you can tell from body language and short interviews anyway.

I’m a bit worried for him that he’s taken a poor career choice. He might have been better off going to a Dortmund/Leipzig, such as Haaland/Sesko, and getting similar game time but less pressure in a better functioning team.

Indeed... mct in the midfield means we wont have the flow in the play, or vision needed.

Imo we need to really get both amrabat and casemiro in the defensive mid, and eriksen infront with fewer defensive obligations - would give us the needed stability in the middle, aswell as the needed vision. Aka dropping Bruno and mct.

"he looked strong, quick and hungry ". When you buy a striker for 70 mil, that should not be something what stands out. Goals, assists and chances created should be.

He will be good for us. But when is the biggest question.

Agree that we overpaid but I do think he's walked into a completely dysfunctional team and most centre forwards would struggle.

I’d like to see us just take the pressure of him a little and give Martial a start or two, letting him have a couple of focussed 30-minute or so cameos.

He at the moment is a bit of a nearly man. Kind of just waiting to see if he can close the deal. He does a lot of great things and he looks like the real deal he just needs to start getting goals. Will need better service for that of course but some of the things he does are fantastic but I think he does need help and I think we should play him up top with Martial. Martial can hold up play and pass. Just feel like that would help get the best out of the lad right now.

Don’t agree. It’s other members of our midfield and attack that are causing the lack of goals. The boy has class.

I think we should change that mindset. We should be able to write off a few seasons to really develop a team.
the problem we have witnessed this season is that there is no single sign on what we are trying to achieve that. No positive from almost every game we played. In some sense, it is mission impossible for most managers considering the Glazers as owners.

Here is another thing. When Hojlund adapts on PL, we will need to replace Case and Eriksen. Year after that Bruno and Varane. It is never ending cycle.

He is 20 and still behind in the season from his injury.

Think he has been a bit unlcky so far with a heavy toch, stmble, deflection etc along the way. Also dont think the team are understanding or reading his runs so far as been some good movement that hasnt been played in from.

Tired of people keep mentioning Kane, wold have cost well over £100m and its hardly like we are a striker away from a proper side.

As others have mentioned, werent really many top strikers available this summer, Omishen wold have been a fortune and cant think of many others.

Think he wil be a great long term signing, so far even with the nerves and brden of trying to break throgh as a striker here, the touch, strngth power, can see it all there

Agreed. We would need a Prime Ronaldo to carry us and create something out of nothing.

Not having another striker (nor martial) is insane for a club like us

Exactly. When we bought Varane and then Case, I was really shocked and thought the people made those decisions were awful when considering how much we paid in transfer fees. They were just incapable. They were appointed by the Glazers. It’s been the story how this once wonderful club has been degrading year over year.

This was way worse than what Hojlund did to Rodri for example.

Yet we got nothing. ETH needs to be calling the refs out for favouring the teams against us

I'm convinced this lad is going to be a top centre forward. At the moment, he's still very green and naive, which is to be expected from a 20 year old. And I get the argument that 70m is a lot to play for someone who's green and naive, but paying 25% over the odds for a player seems to be the "United premium", I'm not gonna hold the transfer fee against him. And we could get 10 years out of this kid, all going well.

What might blunt his progress (and I hope not irreparably) is he's being put into a dysfunctional team with next to zero service from either wing and a playmaker in the no.10 position (when he's not picked as a right winger) who's woefully out of form.

The only ones upset are those that thought he’d transform us instantly.

Was pretty funny in the summer when posters were saying he could get 15 goals in the PL. I had him down for 12 in the season as a whole.

I looked at him as a player to evaluate over two years and so far I like what I see. Obviously not ready to start week in week out for us but we knew that already and he just happens to be our best attacker at the moment.

It's a never ending cycle if you keep going to sign players over the age of 27.

Literally no competent team signs players over 27 apart from very unique circumstances. And most of the time it's still a dumb/bad decision.

I think he is ready to start bar the odd erratic decision and such, but that’s expected. Currently the kid would need close to a 100% conversion rate to look even remotely good to this fanbase, when even the best strikers in Haaland and Kane are sitting around the 30% mark.

We create nothing, we are a dreadful football team currently, we’re feeding him dust nevermind scraps, genuinely what is this guy meant to do when our midfield is virtually non existent at the best of times and the wingers are either extremely selfish bar the odd cross or just have no ability whatsoever. Seriously I am asking, what do people here want him to do? He has ability but he aint exactly prime Rooney or Ronaldo is he, he needs help and it seems the match going fans understand this because they clearly see he has it in him but he’s being hung out to dry as a kid and that’s why they are booing his substitutions.

For anyone suggesting a Kane type signing would have changed anything this season need to pull their heads out of their ass, it aint the forward position that’s the problem, its everywhere else. Hell even when Hojlund is scoring (vs Galatasary) the rest of the team could do nothing but bend over, stroll around, not track runners, give the ball away etc etc and completely feck it all up.

He’s a player for the future and now and people need to start realising that we should be building a team to consistently challenge in the future and not always cry about the fact that we can’t challenge here and now, so many fans on here are stupidly short sighted when it comes to this team and this club, crying that we aren’t challenging this season as if we were ever going to in our state. The club was stupid to buy players like Casemiro for a high fee, not players like Hojlund (even though his fee was a little too high).

Could he be playing better? Of course he could be but at least he gives a shit when too many players are strolling around that pitch as if they couldn’t be bothered and you’re in here moaning about him? He’s the least of our worries, infact i’d say he’s currently the only bright spark in this sea of utter shit.

Kinda mad that we sign a striker in August and, coming into November, he still isn't fit to play 90 minutes. And that's to go with our other striker who hasn't completed 90 minutes since 2021.

Replacing all those players doesn't not always take several seasons or expensive IF (big) plan well with some luck. For example, if Mainoo developed well, and somehow we find a way to make Mount or Hannibal into Bruno replacement. Perhaps another Kim Min Jae type transfer would be available for relatively affordable fee. That would leave us with only one CM signing.

Very rare for teams to replace/rebuild smoothly with desirable age and quality. For all Liverpool luck with their recruitment, they're still not fully replacing VVD, Matip, Salah, Robertson. Our problem is that our recruitment plan is bad in overall. It's not about signing players at wrong age (too young or too old), but we don't plan well, so we're stuck in situation we have little choice signing, and overpay for mediocre quality, we could have got for cheaper elsewhere. We're supposed to have time to scout and plan, yet somehow we buy even worse.

Which is exactly why we shouldn't be buying players like Kane. Spurs only starter over 27 now is Son, a squad primed for the future. We're the complete opposite.

I’ve said it before but United is probably the worst club for a young raw talent to join at this moment. Yes Højlund is getting plenty of minutes but he is playing for a team that isn’t even functioning, he’s not going to progress if he spends all season living off scraps.

Put Højlund in that City team and he would have scored a ton of goals this season. He was the only one that gave the City players something to think about, his hold up play was very good yesterday and he actually pulled Kyle Walker out of position several times because he was the only one with more pace than Rasmus.
The big issue for Rasmus lack of goals is Bruno. He simply refuses to play him in to any even semi decent position.

Thats exactly who he needs it’s very simple Martial often goes down to midfield to initiate play and to get the ball rolling and he has no problems breaking lines with his passes. Martial is the only one aswell that likes a one two in tight spaces.

Another thing aswell that I’ve noticed is that we don’t play through the middle enough at all our players are afraid to give the incisive passes through the middle they always play the ball to the wings.

He's very busy and going off his Champions League performances he has a great eye for goal (when we bother to create a chance for him). I'm very positive about him and excited about what the future might hold, just hope we manage to somehow build a platform for him to build from before we ruin another exciting young footballer.

I’m not saying that he’s the primary cause for us not scoring goals nor lacks class. I think he will be a great striker for us a couple of years down the road.

Just saying that if we had someone like Rooney or Van Persie(which is something we need if we should have the chance to compete for the title or cement top 4), he’d be used as a sub. I feel people are expecting too much of him as we speak.

I swear some people can't see the bigger picture with things like this.
Carragher actually summed it up quite well after the game - he's playing with wingers who prefer to cut in and take a shot rather than cross to him. No wonder he's not scoring.

Notice the few times when Rashford actually decides to cross into him he looks super dangerous? Thats what he needs more of!
The chances he's had he's mainly carved out for himself because of the lack of service, not just from the wings but from in the middle too. Supply this guy and he will score.

Out of all the issues with our team at the moment he is absolutely at the bottom of the list.

Again it's a hell of a lot easier to score goals for Liverpool than United. They outscore us by a large margin every year.

They create chances. We don't

As per I feel sorry for him. Career suicide joining this current Utd team. Already you have people on here writing him off when it’s clear in a top team he would be banging them in.

He should be doing better. But my word, can some one please actually try and give the lad some chances??

He's struggling but also there is enormous pressure because he's getting one chance a game, and snatching at everything. 3/4 times in the first half he made the best run or movement and the ball never comes despite a pass being on for him. It's maddening. Pass him the fecking ball.

Have you seen the stats about Bruno passing to Højlund? He is basically passing to him zero times each match. Its insane.
