If you take out the two Mercedes this would’ve been a great championship. Anyone can have p4 onwards on their day.

Was thinking that. I wonder what time the Mercedes would have done with a tow?
Would have been even more ridiculous I'm sure. Hamilton lost a bit of time in the final sector and still managed that lap, could have found another tenth at least even without a tow.

Is there anyone else or car even close to challenging Hamilton. It's getting pointless now.

Does anyone know if a team has been this far ahead in terms of qualifying times before? There have been very dominant teams before when it comes to race wins and points but were they constantly 0.5-1sec ahead in qualifying throughout the season like Merc is now?

What happened with Verstappen there? Not used to seeing that this season. Poor from him or Red Bull?

If we took Liverpool & City out of the league you could argue the same thing.
Just have to except what a exceptional team Mercs are along with Hammy.

Get in Carlos! Brilliant stuff, edging the best of the rest

Can you imagine what time they would’ve set with a tow & party mode turned on? Ridiculous. I think the Mercs are setting lap records that won’t be beaten for a very long time.

sp

Spectacularly backfired.

Not sure if it was the party mode ban backfiring or just them not suiting Monza. It’s a bit surprising they’re not 3/4th (I thought they had enough of an advantage over the midfield to maintain that position), but their ‘high rake’ philosophy doesn’t really lend itself to extreme low downforce tracks. The ban doesn’t seem to have hampered the Mercs anyway.

Agonising for Bottas. 0.069 gap is minuscule.

I don't actually mean for them to be removed. Its just good to see the midfield so closely packed. Its actually made it interesting to watch the races again. Lots of action in the midfield and a lot of chopping and changing, or maybe its because Ferrari is in there somewhere and I'm paying more attention to what's happening in that part of the field and not bothered to see if Max can beat one of the Mercs. Despite Ferrari have an absolute mare of a season, I've enjoyed the racing so far. I'm glad that the Pink Mercs aren't that far ahead of everyone else as initially feared.

«Well done guys, that was just well done. Good effort by everyone» bla bla -> Lewis Hamilton after winning yet another boring race tomorrow afternoon. 1.28 odds to win, basically the bookies only think he’ll lose if someone rams him out of the gates.

The Philosophy.
Williams were last and RP didn’t qualify well considering they have last years Merc so I think you can suspect the engine mode ban impacted them especially Russell who qualified ahead of the Ferrari cars in recent races.

Ferrari are a mess. Alpha Tauri couldn’t challenge the midfield like Gasly has in previous races so Honda were prob impacted, its hard with Red Bull as they are poor in qualifying and even worse at low downforce tracks.

It looks like Renault were impacted the least. Hard to say until we go back to normal tracks.

The onboard today showed the Merc is almost a perfect car in every way, I don’t think I’ve seen such a difference in cars my whole life other than the first few races where Brawn had the double diffuser. Maybe the Williams in the 90s but I think drivers helped make a difference, here even Bottas is smashing it.

I have faith that one of these days Bottas becomes so fed up that thats exactly what he ll do.

Yep, it baffles me how some think it's just purely to do with the engine. The downforce and balance they get from that car is phenomenal. Toto Wolff was saying last night that out of spite for the ban on party mode, they're potentially pushing for high wear reliability next year so they can turn the dials up on the engines for the entire race. I've always thought that since this new hybrid era we've never truly seen the maximum of what that car can do, every race they have either dialled back for reliability or because they don't have to.

Jonathan Edwards would count on that criteria. Still got the world record 25 years later and it's not looking like it will be beaten any time soon. He was also head and shoulders above the rest for a number of years.
A good shout, but can we say someone who won 1 Olympic gold is our greatest ever sportsman?
Adam Peatey too, breaks his own world record most months.
Another good shout, he’s absolutely in a class of his own. I think Peaty’s issue is he’s a single stroke/length specialist, which in swimming puts him behind quite a few others.
Steve Redgrave. Won pretty much every time he got in a boat.
True, and I think he would likely be my number 2. I think the prominence (or lack thereof) of rowing probably just does for him.

By the way, my messages aren’t meant to detract from these sportspeople, but if you’re talking about the greatest ever, everyone’s record needs to be examined very critically.

A tow and party mode and I think it’s possible to have seen a 1.5 second gap between pole and P3.

Renault's F1 outfit will be renamed for the 2021 season and become known as the Alpine F1 Team.
Alpine is the French manufacturer's historic sportscar brand and was relaunched in 2017.

Fernando Alonso returns to the team in 2021 and Alpine's blue colours are set to revoke memories of the Spaniard's title-winning era at the team in the mid-2000s when Renault's car were blue and yellow for sponsorship reasons.

I just hope this race isn't over after 1 lap like the last one :(

I really want to love F1, but they make it such hard work.

Williams have been crying out for new leadership for years. It's not just about speed, last year they couldn't even bring a car to testing, it isn't a well run team. Takeover or not it was time for Claire Williams to step aside for an experienced team principal. But she seems so passionate about Williams every time she speaks and I really like her. It's a shame it didn't work out.

It is, just ignore who wins and enjoy the rest of the race. It's not all about who wins.

The midpack fight is one of the best I've seen in 20+ years of watching, between Mclaren, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault and Racing Point it's never been closer.

Even Sky have given up pretending that Bottas will push Hamilton.
