Been watching a bit of Drive to Survive the last few days. The faked drama is bad enough, but Horner makes it almost unwatchable. One of the worst people going.

Just watched the first two seasons without having really followed F1 ever before. Really liking it, as a way to get into the different characters, teams and race dynamics.

Had read a little about the faked drama. What are some of the worst examples.

Seems that casual and people that don't watch F1 enjoy the show a lot more people that watch every race. Fans of F1 have certain ideas, biases and drivers/teams they like/dislike so it's less enjoyable, but the show is made for the more casual viewers and does a good job overall. But yeah, they overplayed the drama when the season was very dramatic; they just needed to tell the story without adding extra crap onto it.

Overall the show does what it intends, brings hype to F1 and brings new viewers in.

I love F1 but have zero interest in watching Drive to Survive. Watch a few epsiodes and was bored. There are probably many who wouldn't watch a f1 race in its entirety but enjoy Drive to survive

I just skipped to the parts I wanted to see. Verstappen crashing out at Silverstone. Verstappen crashing himself and Hamilton out in Monza and then the final episode. The in-between stuff was meh.

Yeah I gave up on S4 quickly

Schumacher was a great watch. Didn't know much about him prior to seeing the documentary. Tried to find something similar about the Brazilian racer guy

The first episode in particular is a huge bore, because of the retrospective and then all the off-season stuff that's really uninteresting if you already kinda know how the season played out. But I found the season overall a little lame as a well. Maybe I've just seen enough of the behind-the-scenes stuff and there isn't much to add to that anymore? The last few episodes were better though, when the battle heats up.

Truth like rain don't give a feck who it falls on.
F1 doesn’t give a feck what Zac Brown thinks about this. He’s a race team boss not a promoter.

He’s also from the land which puts up racing tracks in casino parking lots and the less said about the shit show that is “circuit of the America’s” the better.
Basically everything he said there makes complete sense.

Yet nobody making the decision to kee Monaco or not cares? That’s my point.
Do they need to care in order for Zak Brown to answer questions that he's asked by reporters? He still has a valid point, and seems to echo the thoughts of most people discussing the issue. When discourse happens and people tend to agree, it can lead to change.

Alonso will have 3 PU replaced in his first 3 races.

. Alonso forced to use new engine in Australia

After his retirement in Saudi Arabia, Fernando Alonso will board a new engine for the Australian Grand Prix.

Back on the Old Continent, the engineers of the tricolor team were able to get to work to investigate the origin of the problem. Quickly, a guilty element was found. " It's not the engine but the water pump ," explained Laurent Rossi, General Manager of Alpine, during a meeting in Viry-Châtillon. This led to a lack of cooling and subsequently a cascade of events: the engine cooled less, the oil heated up, etc… creating more worries .”

Faced with a major mechanical problem, Alpine hoped to be able to replace the element in question for the Australian Grand Prix (April 10). Unfortunately, the French manufacturer will not be able to carry out its mission and will have to equip Fernando Alonso 's A522 with a new power unit. A big blow after two contested races when the allocation is only 3 engines for the whole season (23 GP) before receiving penalties on the grid.

“ The problem is that this accessory (water pump) is integrated into the engine , emphasizes Laurent Rossi. The water pump eventually disintegrated and fell into the engine. If we had wanted to repair it, we would have had to break the seal. The engine is therefore lost to us. Even if his physical integrity is not directly affected, for us, it is one less engine . »

Shame, hopefully they've found the main problems now though.

Wow, french reliability at its finest. Also is it common to have the water pump intergrated into the engine or is this just a renault thing for packaging reasons?

Top 5 tracks:
Suzuka
Spa
Canada
Monza
Monaco

Close behind:
Interlagos
Imola
Silverstone

Don't care much for the rest but China (not on this year) Austin and Australia are ok. Not keen on Zandvoort track, nice venue but needs to be longer, same I feel with Austria. Used to really like the old Hockenheim but the newer shorter layout I don't miss it.

A top track I miss is the Nurburgring GP track.

So this engine is now supposed to last till the end of the season?

21 races... Suspect we will be seeing several grid penalties for Fernando over the season
no, they can still use the other two engines. But I'm not sure how much they are allowed to work on them.

For the crowd and atmosphere I like Mexico. Pilots seem to dig it too. I hope it never gets removed from the calendar again

Yeah s4 was bad, I didn't even finish it and I loved the first 3 seasons. S1 was the best as it highlighted certain races on the calendar.

For those who have mentioned Melbourne in their top 5 races, be interesting to see what you think of the changes to the track, this weekend coming. I didnt think there was much wrong with the track. It has a nice flow.

However 7 turns have been changed. Pitlane widened and track surface relayed.

Melbourne was too flowing and not enough overtaking zones either. Fun track to drive, but where could you realistically pass? the straight wasn't long enough and the corners not slow enough to lunge into.

I think if you looked at previous races overtaking was very minimal

Why do people like Monaco apart from its history? Literally not much overtaking and action. Just following around all race long till the pitstops.

Pure nostalgia. One poster made a good point that races in the past were more exciting when cars were smaller, making it easier to overtake. The size of them now takes up most of the track, so any chance of a car making a significant overtake mostly relies on SCs and tactical pitstops.

It's probably the only race I have skipped in past seasons due to its level of predictability

Given how the cars are heavier and more enormous than ever before, watching them try and navigate all of Mirabeau, and the first chicane, and Rascasse, is going to be grim as feck. Monaco will be more boring than ever before.

it’s what f1 should be. a playground for the rich and famous. a chance to show just how much better you are than everyone else. a chance for the small teams to know their place after being blue flagged to allow a car going 52mph to go by them. a reminder for drivers only in f1 due to their skills as a driver, like verstappen and hamilton, that they don’t belong in the sport and their drives should go to a sponsored driver of the uber rich. f1 is monaco.

For a drivers track I wasn't sure about the changes, Albert park was a rather challenging circuit to hook up a perfect lap. By making the corners that bit wider you lose that but I think the race will be better for it. Got to favour Max now I reckon.
