Its weird but it seems like a member of my family is seriously ill. Thats what Fergie means to me and I guess many fans too.

Nothing but best wishes for him, God can wait, Fergie is going nowhere!

I wasn’t aware of this until a few minutes ago. It makes me feel sick to my stomach feels like it’s happening to one of my family.
The word legend is vastly over used in football but not in this case. The man is an inspiration the most successful football manager of all time a title that will surely be his forever.
Loved and respected throughout the world.we all know what a fighter he is and if anyone can beat this he can.It serves to remind us that we are all only here for a visit and to embrace every moment of the time we have.
I am not a religious man but even I will say a little prayer for him tonight

Deeply saddened by this despite the positive statement from Man Utd.

One of those people that has just always been there, you forget he’s human.

A legend of sport, hope he recovers fully and is back in the stands next season.

I always thought of him as the "highlander", that will live for ever.

On the other hand, if it was minor it wouldn't have required neurosurgical intervention.
Surgical intervention was needed to remove the clot from the cranium so that it does not compress the brain and thus cause failure of the vital functions like respiration.
If it's a sub dural hemorrhage, he should be fine after the surgery
Lets all hope and pray that's the case

Honestly hope that our club twitter tweets out something reassuring soon. At least I can go to sleep in peace
I doubt we'll get any more info (other than what they've already tweeted) for a few days. The family will want privacy and will let us know more - good or bad - in due course. Doctors/medical students that have posted in here have said the next few days are vital.

I'd guess that people in their 20s and 30s would make up most of the forum users here and up until fairly recently he was the only manager we knew and the only manager we wanted to know. Totally understandable that he feels like such a part of so many of our lives.

The statement and what we know of Sir Alex as a character leave me feeling pretty confident that he'll beat this. But it also brings home that even the great Sir Alex is mortal, he's an old man and he won't be here forever. We must keep showing him our appreciation each and every time we see him.

Shaken, and very stirred......
Even in a coma he'll be heading every ball.........the man is amazing, as the outpouring of concern, whether friend or former foe confirms. Come on Alex.....it's Fergie time.......

All the strength and good vibes possible to SAF. Very few people on this planet more mentally equipped to suffer something like this and come back fighting.

One of the mrs medical friends is a 3rd year practicing neuro surgeon, I asked her if she could message him and ask for some kind of prognosis based on the available information, and he said that if he appeared healthy a week ago, and this happened suddenly and the operation was successful then at the age of 76 that’s a VERY good sign.

Doubt they'll be anything until tomorrow. Needs to get through the night first like anyone who has a serious injury/illness.

Feel like the forum should be closed or something apart from this, just seems strange to discuss transfers and the future right now

I didn't even entered another thread since I heard the news. All other things look trivial for me.

Kudos to the doctors / medical students for giving us some very timely, objective information as to what we can expect.

Hope Hospital/Salford Royal has a specialist acute neurology/neurosurgery unit. He'll have been transferred there by his local hospital. The best place for him to be while he's dealing with this.
It does. It's the nuerosurgical base. They, the neurosurgeons, cover other places but that's their home.

I have refrained from posting but have been reading this Twitter and thread from the moment the news broke. I was and still am incredibly shocked and worried but the news from United appears to be positive thankfully, everything crossed for Sir Alex going forward.

It is incredible how somebody you have never known and can vastly impact on your life and be so important to so many of the best memories of your life. I’m just not ready for Sir Alex to go yet. Keep fighting Boss.

On another not, the comments from rival clubs and supporters have been fantastic to see. I love how the football world can unite as one over certain things.

From the BBC piece:

'The Scot, 76, retired as United manager in May 2013 after winning 38 trophies during 26 years in charge'.

A disgustingly good return by any measure. If total football deserves a total manager, then he's the only candidate. Hoping for a full recovery.

Yeah, but you want a statement without a 'but'. Its a good start but I want a tweet like "Relax guys, the gaffer is fine" for mental peace
Yea I get what you mean.

Could’ve been worded a tad better like instead of using “but” and replacing it with “and”. Nonetheless, the boss is in good hands we’re all there with him.

[If anyone is wondering about Gary, he retweeted the club statement, but didn't add any words of his own.]
