Well anyway, watch us lose to Afghanistan next and make this whole thing pointless
Was thinking before this game that it'd be very like us to pull off an impressive victory against SA before losing to Afghanistan.

Dunno if thats true, Willey was dropped in South Africa for a bloke thats not even here. Topley cost us a game with his awful 'death bowling' and Jordan's Jordan. There's no point complaining about Finn and Wood not being here, because they would be if they were fit, but there's definitely better alternatives than what we've got.
Willey has been bowling well, has some good variations of pace and is great at the start. Topley is a bit hit and miss, he needs to be a bit smarter with variations. What other alternatives are you thinking of?

T20 sticks up a massive middle finger to test cricket.
What the feck? This shit isn't real sport. It's who has the biggest bat on a flat pitch. It's isn't a contest, just batting. Change the name of the sport to hitting or some shit rather than making us watch this crap.

I'd have had Woakes over either of them, I know they like them because they're lefties, but Woakes is just a better bowler and also has a, sigh, good yorker would be more handy with the new ball than anyone in that side now, too, I think they've probably got to look to get Plunkett into the side as well.

I'm not writing off Topley, he's still young, but I've seen a lot of him for Essex and I said as soon as he came into the side he lacked pace.

Going forward, I think they might give Tymal Mills a run. His body is fecked, but at least he's a left armer with some actual pace, it seems to be what they want but they keep picking the Topley and Gurneys of this world.

Its such a shame they dropped Parry for no reason and took an absolute flog like Liam Dawson. Given how important spin has been so far he'd have gone great on these pitches and I think England should be looking to play 3 spinners.

That was more fun to watch than any session of test cricket I've ever seen. Including that time I saw a 70 year old Jamaican guy spent the entire 2 hours brutally heckling Jerome Taylor.

You mustn't have watched proper test cricket then.

Totally agree about Liam Dawson, not sure what the logic is behind taking an uncapped player. Root can be a useful bowler as well. Woakes is useful, has improved his pace and can bat. Not sure about Plunkett. Heard alot about Mills but only seen him a couple of times in action so will need to see him a bit more to make a judgement. Personally cannot see why Broad is not playing. You need to have your best bowlers there.

I guess the logic is that he is a left arm spinner (so takes the ball away from the right hander) who can bat a bit, and had a reasonable T20 season. I'm probably biased against him, because I've had a chat with him before and thought he was a massive cnut, but he never struck me as a player that was good enough for international cricket. Although, he's opened the bowling for Hampshire before, and seeing as how pace has disappeared up top it might be an idea to get him in over Topley (even if he only bowls 1 over the seamers aren't bowling out at the minute anyway).

Mills is one for the future, but they're understandably hesitant about him and have to manage him carefully, this world cup was just too soon for him: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Det...very-process/story-28462644-detail/story.html

There's a few knocking around the county scene who this world cup probably came a little too early for: Chris Wood, Toby Roland-Jones, both the Currans, both the Overtons, Gregory, Jake Ball, Hannon-Dalby etc... I'm not sure if any of them are currently better than who we took with us, but theres not a huge amount in it, which is the problem with who we did take.

I'm not going to suddenly pretend like I think Broad is a good short format player, but yeah, he's an improvement too.

So Root is the best England batsman you've seen:wenger:
I did say England batsman and not English batsman...

And yeah not taking Parry, easily the best slow bowler in the T20 cup last year for Lancashire is a poor decision which was obvious at the time. Who cares if he can't really bat, we have enough firepower.

Topley just seems another Dernbach. A supposed specialist 'death bowler' who just bowls pie after pie.

If this game was lost by a certain nation it's players would have been accused of throwing the game. Still can't understand how South Africa lost the match.

Easy, look at what the pace bowlers for both teams did and then compare it to the spinners...then add 3 extra overs due to wides...along with a few factor...

And of course 3 amazing knocks from England, and voila!

Topley is genuinely dog shit, I've seen him get hit by club cricketers in the past. No idea how he made it to the England squad.

Thought it was a joke when I saw it on Essex's Twitter account.

The Proteas are the poster boys for choking in Sport.

I cant think of any team that comes close.

Cant see them winning the world cup within the next 30 years (Yet they almost always the favourites before every tournament).

Mentally very weak.

@Varun what's the weather like? I'm hoping for it to be rained out. A point would be good for Pakistan, no chance they win today.

You can all quote me on it. Pakistan have about a 5% chance of winning and that 5% is if India forget how to hold the bat.
