Neither do INot seeing anything in him that says he's a £35 million player.
Majority defenders even the average one and also the teenager like Tuanzebe will look extremely comfortable when their own team in a control of a game.Neither do I
But the fact we were after him for a year or so, and that people far more qualified than you or I decided he was worth spending the cas on. He has to be better than what we have seen.
I’ve said a few times, but it’s crazy to write him off now. I’d like to think we all would be willing to give him benefit of any doubt
He looks extremely comfortable when utd are in control of a game. So that’s a plus. Obviously it’s more important he starts improving significantly when under pressure though.
What makes you think his positioning was fine then? It's not a lazy criticism because in first half he had zero attempt of tackles, zero attempt of interceptions, zero attempt of blocks. His positioning has been fine, that's just a lazy criticism without justification. He's decent on the ball and would look much more comfortable alongside anyone but Smalling. He has the makings of a top centre back and I believe the critics will be eating their words in a year or two. The criticism is really over the top right now, and I'll defend him like I defended De Gea through his tough introduction. It's not just a new team but a new lifestyle and culture that must take time to adapt to. Give him a chance.
He deserves criticism for a lot of stuff in recent games but certainly not for this. Especially if Michael Oliver was ref he’d be fecked if he did that. Why would he put his hand behind his back when blocking shots in the box? I know he wants to avoid getting hit on the hand but how often do we see that in a game?
I'm not seeing this class on the ball. Even from his time at Benfica he looked okay on the ball but hardly anything special and for Sweden it was a 11 man defence at times and on the ball he wasn't anything special. Was absolutely outstanding for Sweden against Italy, over both legs. Looked great for Benfica too. He just needs some time to settle in. I swear he's just nervous. I think he's going to be top quality when he calms down. We desperately need someone of his composure and class on the ball to help us build from the back.
Too much knee jerking going on right now.
Not the thread to discuss it. He was top notch. I don't question his talent, I question his commitment to the game. He wasn't found lacking this week. What did you make of Pogba today?
Matic missed that tackle outside the box and Smalling went with Shelvey and then Shelvey slippedThat missed tackle was Smalling....
Many defenders do that. Not worth the risk of an idiot ref or a loose hand. Why would he put his hand behind his back when blocking shots in the box? I know he wants to avoid getting hit on the hand but how often do we see that in a game?
Why do we? Plenty of teams have been successful without a defender who specializes in being on the ball rather than without it. Its just been a pompous fancy dreamt up in recent seasons because basic young CBs like Smalling and Jones arent exotic enough. Sir Alex had enough faith in Jones' passing to use him in midfield let alone as a CB. And we have one of the best options in the league for playing the ball out from the back in Blind who is also more natural to partner a right footed CB like Bailly or Smalling. Was absolutely outstanding for Sweden against Italy, over both legs. Almost every professional defender do that every gameWhy would he put his hand behind his back when blocking shots in the box? I know he wants to avoid getting hit on the hand but how often do we see that in a game?
If we wanted a ball playing CB we should have got Aymeric Laporte. Laporte can peel off 30 to 40m passes with ease and unlike Lindelof can actually defend. Not sure why we purchased a project player like Lindelof when we could have got an experienced first team player like Laporte. He's also 23 so could have played for us for the next decade. Why do we? Yes. Just shows that when we look at some players we have the tendency to see the “negatives” more than the positives. I am no big fan of him yet but I think he deserves the chance to settle. I feel he is just a little too nervous at times and needs to settle down a bit.Almost every professional defender do that every game
Laporte is overrated. He isn’t half as good as he is made out to be.If we wanted a ball playing CB we should have got Aymeric Laporte. Can you name some CBs that are better than Laporte? Skilled ball playing CBs are rare. Varane, Marquinhos, and Hummels are probably at about the same level as Laporte. Even if Laporte is short of world class at least he's much better than Lindelof. Axel and TFM from the youth academy are better than Lindelof in my opinion.Laporte is overrated. What makes you think he wont struggle in epl in first few months? Lindelof can pass the ball too very nicely and when he comes up with the grips of epl he 'll be very clinical defender too.If we wanted a ball playing CB we should have got Aymeric Laporte. Joe hart was bettr than de gea when he arrived here. Patience is needed for any new player. Can you name some CBs that are better than Laporte? Skilled ball playing CBs are rare. No he hits the ground fallingBe patient. Not everyone hits the ground running.
I am not saying he won't be good enough - but we are not in a position where we can use a player who might be good enough in 2 years time, but right now is costing us a goal a game. If that was the case - we might have played Gomes and Tuanzebe every game.Plenty of players are deemed not good enough in their initial days here. Let's give the lad a fair shot over at least a season.
No he was not. It was just the media getting on De Gea's back while putting Hart in the same bracket as Neuer.Joe hart was bettr than de gea when he arrived here. Patience is needed for any new player.
I watched the game I thought Italy was just poor tactically and clueless in going attack. Was absolutely outstanding for Sweden against Italy, over both legs. Looked great for Benfica too.
