He always looking for wee gives and goes, quick 1 2s, round the corner passes. Unless we play him with mata, martial and (believe it or not) lingaard i dont think we will see the best out of him.

Think those 4 are well suited for that close quick passing and moving

these giving the ball away stats seem to have increased by 50% every time I see a number quoted

I don't think I'd ever even come across stats regarding giving the ball away before Sanchez joined us. Bizarre really.

It’s not OTT to suggest he should be dropped. It might even do him some good. I hope we have seen the last of him on the LHS.
Yeah, I’d persist with him for now but if he delivers another couple of consecutive poor performances I wouldn’t be against dropping him. Players need to earn their place in the team on merit and thus far he’s just about scraping by.

He still plays like he's in Arsenal despite having a whole new set of players around him playing different tactics. I don't blame him though, this is on Mourinho. He needs to be clear about how and where he wants Alexis to play, and i'm afraid that Mourinho himself doesn't have the answer to that. How many times have we seen Alexis looking at the bench to see if Mourinho wants him to press or not press? How many times we've seen Alexis standing there clueless, looking at players around him?

Six games into his career at OT and you think this BS is justifiable?
10 games actually. 1 goals (penalty) in 10 games, with a lot of poor performances (our worst forward), and highest no. of dispossession. 29 years old and currently the highest paid player in our club. Yeh let’s give him more time to settle, at least 1 full season starting every game regardless of his performances. By then let’s hope he won’t past his peak yet, and let’s hope we are still challenging for trophies.

He deserves the criticism he is getting, he has played 10 games for us now and I am genuinely hard pressed to find 1 game barring yeovil where you can say he was decent not great or even good just decent. How can someone who is considered world-class be so bad.

I'm very sure he'll come good but the guy needs to get his head clear over the summer. Not to mention we need to get a defined role for him, preferably RW. He's not at arsenal anymore where he can play and do as he pleased

To be fair, in that video, a lot of the time he is let down by team mates either failing to control his passes or not being on the same wavelength. He looks exceptionally busy.

This possession loss stat must be the most useless stat, maybe after pass completion and cross completion%.

Attackers who plays risky passes loses possession more than others. They consider even a failed set piece as possession loss IIRC.

He's quality and will come good, just come into a side that continues to struggle to find an identity with round pegs in square holes and a manager who knows only time and money will resolve it.

So did Rooney.
At the core, I think the two are very similar stylistically. Versatile attackers who haven’t really nailed down one spot; extremely impressive goal/assist tally year-in year-out; both have/had a fixation with dropping deep to involve themselves in the build-up when their traits were far better suited elsewhere. Result of that is inconsistency and inaccurate passes (the dispossession stats!) which are compensated through the caveat of working hard. Seriously, buzzwords like busy, hard worker etc. have probably been rife in every page since he’s joined. I think @Brwned actually made a thread on the comparison.

The system and our general inability to play cohesive attacking football plays a big part but he’s been underwhelming for the star-status, wage, and age.

My only defence for Sanchez is the way I see a January signing. I see the first six months as bedding in, getting used to the club and then hit the following season hard, playing well. So, in a way his form is a little bit understandable, even if he should be doing better. I'm willing to give him the chance to improve. If he can't be better than he was for Arsenal or at least a similar level next season, then serious questions would have to be asked.

However, what I can't defend is where he is playing. Rashford & Martial have, for the most-part, been better than they've ever been before this season, playing from the left. I said when we originally signed Sanchez that he should go and make the right forward position his own. He's a top talent, so why can't he go and play there? He is simply not doing enough to displace players who are playing well in a position, just because it's apparently his best position I don't mind seeing him at no.10 in some games, but the lack of a proper right forward / winger hurts us because Mata & Lingard are not it. I think Sanchez would be better than anyone else we have for that role, so why isn't it being tried in it?

I think he feels he 'has to do it' everytime he gets the ball, sort of how Pogba appears to be thinking and playing at times. Think he'll do better next season and hit the ground running, when the rest of the team (hopefully) functions better as a unit aswell.

Unfortunately for Alexis, De Bruyne and Eriksen both have far, far more successful passes than Sanchez this season. Even for a risky, attacking player Sanchez' figures are far from great. Though I'd agree that Sanche plays a different role and in different systems to City/Spurs

I personally couldn't stand watching Sanchez at Arsenal, because to me his unwillingness to let go of the ball was maddening. I think the combination of a player who either holds on to the ball too long and harms /slows the attacking play or plays the ball but has sloppy passing and poor decision making isn't one you want in your buildup.

I think in order to get the best out of Sanchez, without those downsides, you need to try to limit getting him onto the ball to the final quarterish of the pitch. That means you need other players, from the midfield, in charge of moving the ball forward.

(Problem) is you do want him across the wing pressing and defending so I'm not sure how you balance the two. Actually, not sure that is a problem.

They all have nearly same "mins per possession loss"

Playing more passes means nothing as it depends on who your coach is. Any midfielder playing for Pep will have high number of passes.

I'm not saying Sanchez is having good season as he isn't, he is having poor one without doubt but this possession loss stat is just pathetic. Maybe something Van Gaal would enjoy.

Looking at that I see 2 things.
1, his passes are high risk. If they come off, then the attacker will be through on goal. These are difficult to pull off.
2, The person who he is passing to, is not on his wave-length. Ie. his footballing brain seems to be running faster than the brain of the person who is passing to.
As someone said earlier, he needs to have Mata, Lingard or Martial around him. These players will be fast enough to read his passes.

I see no reason to drop Sanchez. In fact, in preparation for next season, he needs to quickly find out his best position, so that he can start next season, firing on all cylinders.

I think he feels he 'has to do it' everytime he gets the ball,...
...and so he should.
He was brought in a Galactico class player. He should be orchestrating our attacks and setting our other (young) attackers, up for goals.
He is trying to do this, but is not succeeding. I expect him to improve over the next few games and definitely next season.
If we are to win the title next season, Sanchez's form is going to be key. If he has a great season, (like KDB, this season), I think we can win the title.

All these stats sites are really bad at giving any context to their numbers. Player A spins away from a tackle, plays a superb through ball that the defender has to make a miracle play on to get a toe to, ball possession loss, passer gets marked down. Player B miscontrols a simple pass while on a 2 v 1 break, killing a chance to create a goal, ends up going back the keeper. Great job, positive action, marks goes up. Bailly scores a freak OG at the weekend, all the defenders get marked down.

You can give the ball away and it is still the right option, Sanchez too often takes the wrong option, choice and execution are faulty, that is why his ability to give the ball away is commented on more than others. This goes back to his time at Arsenal as well, fans I knew had a love/hate relationship with him.

We lack balance and that's down to preferred /natural positions of certain players. If Sanchez, Martial/Rashford and Pogba are played in one team their tendency is to aggregate on the left hand half space or wing.

We need to spread out. That will create more gaps for our attacking players to exploite.

Clearly Rashford and Martial are more dangerous on the left at the moment and have combined well with Pogba in the past.

So IMO either Sanchez should be played on the right or he shouldn't start at all. Since Lukaku likes to drift towards the right anyway to open the space for his left foot, it would be a good ploy for us to play Sanchez as a RF and at times CF when Lukaku drifts wide.

Moreover, the way Sanchez likes to carry the ball through midfield is hurting our attacking fluidity and causing him to become redundant in attack (since he's roaming far away from the final third). He needs to leave that to the 3 midfielders.

He has been useless so far and have to question why we didn’t buy a RW. He might be brilliant next season but at moment he is lucky not to be dropped.

I don't think Mourinho will drop him. At this point he'll just have to play into form. He's a massive talent who's just struggling in a new team IMO

How many experienced players have you seen us buy actually start this horrible and turn good?
Not that many at United, but its still too early for you to write him off as you seemingly are. Our own Sheringham had a slow start at United, even missing a penalty on his debut against former club Spurs at White hart lane. I remember several fans calling him a flop in the early days of his OT career and the same can be said of Andy Cole in his first season when he was accused of needing 5 chances to score. There's a plethora of other experienced players who started poorly in the PL, players like Drogba, Theirry Henry, Marc Overmars and a seasoned Denis Bergkamp!

10 games actually. 1 goals (penalty) in 10 games, with a lot of poor performances (our worst forward), and highest no. of dispossession. 29 years old and currently the highest paid player in our club. By then let’s hope he won’t past his peak yet, and let’s hope we are still challenging for trophies.
So what do you suggest? Mourinho drop him alltogether or sell him in the summer since we can't afford to give him more time to settle and eat into our wage structure?

He deserves the criticism he is getting, he has played 10 games for us now and I am genuinely hard pressed to find 1 game barring yeovil where you can say he was decent not great or even good just decent. How can someone who is considered world-class be so bad.
Look at my response to Galactico. Other great players have had similar starts and still went on to be club legends.

I don't understand how nationally every attacker we sign is crap no matter what.
Our attackers are not crap and neither is Sanchez.

Have we become so impatient that we are now judging players and reaching conclusions after 7 matches?
This place is getting crazy.

Sanchez is a top class attacker and it's pretty evident that when he gets the ball he is moving the ball rapidly towards the goal. Eventually, when he hits form, all his quick passes and attacking runs will begin to work.

By all means, if he is performing poorly by this time next year, then feel free to declare him a dud, but until then, be patient.

I'm patient but he's really not been very good at all has he. Obviously he's not crap but what he's shown so far has been really poor, picks the wrong option again and again. I can only remember one shot he's had which had even come anywhere near the goal which was his effort against palace which rebounded and eventually fell to Lukaku.

The fact he's been playing as a number 10 and a left wing forward with freedom to roam and I can only recall a single half decent shot jobin past 4 games speaks volumes for me.

Buying players with the mental strength to walk into Old Trafford and carry the team is almost impossible.

Zlatan is missed massively in that regard.

Watching Barca walk off at half time reminds you of the history and experience they have...Messi, Inesta, Pique are all Mr Barca. (Odd term but you get my idea?)

United hav Tony V with the armband on and an inexperienced group of boys in Rom, Pogba and Jesse etc.

It takes years to make it on the CL stage, games like the other night should inspire them next time.

If we bin the lot the cycle just gets reset.

The big issue with Rooney that no-one ever talked about is that he never established a good strike partnership. Never.

He had glimpses with van Nistelrooy, Saha, Tevez, Berbatov, Hernandez, Welbeck and van Persie, and people can easily remember the standout moments with each, but none of the partnerships ever lasted in large part because of Rooney himself. His inconsistency, lack of positional discipline, workrate and his status all worked together to make him a player that was moved around the pitch every few months, to coax the best form out of him and the team. No-one really knew where he played best, and where to fit the others around him.

Sánchez is presenting a lot of the same problems here unfortunately.

Complete overreaction to his start here imo. He will be a big success here, just trying way too hard at the moment and consequently is playing bad. The fact that he is taking up the position of Martial/Rashford/Pogba seems to have set some element of our support against him already. Don't get me wrong I'm not denying he has been shit,(he had plenty of spells at Arsenal where he was not good too), but I like the way he never stops working hard and I am confident that he will turn things around.
