Ten Hag started the disrespect. Why make him warm up and then at the last minute send a nobody like Elanga on? No footballing reason. Should CR7 just take the insult? ETH has no right to disrespect an all time great who has given everything for the club.
You are leaving with him in January or staying?

Nobody said it was easy. No one ever said it would be so hard. I'm going back to the start.

When Ronaldo was warming up, we hadn’t scored. Ronaldo brings goals.

we scored two goals and suddenly bringing Ronaldo on wasn’t a priority anymore. He bought elanga on because he will run more, press and help defend. If it was still 0-0 at 60 minutes, he brings Ronaldo on.

Manchester United > any individual player. ETH has to do what he thinks will win us a game. It’s as simple as that, it isn’t about Ronaldo.
Just chuckling now at my memory of the period before the season when I and others gently suggested that Man United should move on from Ronaldo and begin a rebuild that wasn't centred around a near 40 year old player. We were basically called idiots by Ronaldo fans for daring to make such utterances because Ronaldo was 'carrying the club' and 'no other players in the team was capable of scoring goala'. This is despite the fact that United scored 120 goals in the 20/21 season without Ronaldo and only 70 in the 21/22 season with Ronaldo.

Someone should remind Ronaldo every now and then that it's a team game.

There's a reason why he isnt Manchester United Captain.

As a squad player I think he can still contribute quite a lot to the team actually, but it looks like at the moment his ego won't accept this?
In his head he probably thinks he's still 27yrs old.

Ronaldo fanboys on my twitter timeline this morning are going mental

If it were up to me, I'd treat him like Keane and rip up his contract right now.

I just had a quick look through our results this season and I think I’m right in saying we have not won a game in which he has started. Ominia or whatever they are called doesn’t count!

We should be trying to get rid to America in January and try to loan or buy someone else for cover - at least until we can get in long term replacement which I don’t think will happen in jan. Clearly best for both parties

i couldn’t agree with you more. It’s a known fact that other clubs were actually in for Ronaldo in the summer, so why keep him? And if you do keep him you got to play him.. otherwise…don’t keep him. This is a guy in his last couple years at the top level, he shouldn’t be wasting it not playing.

however, we’re better without him on and off the pitch, it’s simple he shouldn’t play as much as he’d like.. he shouldn’t even be here and that’s more the point I’m making. It’s frustrating but hopefully after the World Cup he will be sold and get what he wants in his last season or two. We can continue to develop as a ETH side and everyone’s happy.

No chance of this happening but he should just apologize in a rare show of humility and just try to see it through to the January transfer window. He's got to get those game in for the world cup and as much as our fanbase doesn't want him anywhere near the team at the moment (and for good reason) we have a horrible fixture list and need the players.

Ten Hag all but confirmed that it wasn't nothing. He said "I saw it. We'll deal with it tomorrow"
Yes, of course. No one really though anything else. He's a cnut and deservingly left out of the match squad against Chelsea. Never want to see him in a United shirt again. Offsido can really just feck off, the Manchester City wannabe.

Bringing on Elanga was intentionally disrespectful. That's what triggered his reaction.
Elanga was brought on because of his pace when Tottenham was pushing for a equaliser, leaving huge space to run into on counters. A very sensible sub.

Most probably because Ronaldo refused to come on as a sub.

I've seen multiple suggestions that we should have sold him in summer to multiple interested clubs, which is a ridiculous take. Who was interested?

I've even seen people saying that Napoli were drooling over him which is really crazy to think. They have one of the most exciting attacking departments in Europe, having six players (yeah, six: Kvitcha, Osimhen, Raspadori, Simeone, Lozano, Politano) extremely dynamic, good in possession, and interchanging positions quickly. De Laurentiis might be crazy, but he's not stupid and he's always been capable of building exciting Napoli sides. He'd never have brought Ronaldo, it's just wishful thinking from Ronaldo fanboys. There is literally no top ten club in any of the better European leagues which he would make look better, and he still doesn't realize it.

I have always hated Ronaldo person, because in general I hate egomaniacs. With him it was never about the team, it was always purely about him. I have also been very annoyed by his perceived importance by the fans. For example, when Portugal won EURO 2016, it was all about injured Ronaldo cheering team on from the bench. But players on the pitch actually won it, not him. And his PR machinery pushed him into the team of the tournament, which was absolutely undeserved. But well.

I just don't think world should ever ponder to such people, regardless of how good players they are, or how good they are with whatever it is they do. Ronaldo can't be considered Manchester United legend. For me he isn't, that's a word too easily thrown around, and I think apart from footballing qualities, it should also carry some human qualities. Ronaldo never really cared for Manchester United, he'd burn the shirt laughing tomorrow if that'd help prolong his career a little bit and let him attempt to hit few more records.

My Grand Parents and Parents lived in Manchester and supported United. My parents often went to see the Busby babes. I've supported Manchester United for over 60 years. Through all the tough times and poor games, they or I never attacked a player. My Dad would say "what a shower" when they lost, but never singled out an individual. When did this terrible attack mentality start. I think people have been too influenced by the likes of Trump and think it's ok to attack individuals. We need to get back to supporting and encouraging our players, not attacking them. Of course Ronaldo gets upset, he wants to play every game.

His post today. Not sure what part made me wanna throw up the most; but probably the "united we must stand" part. Or maybe the "support my teammates" part.

"As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision making process.

I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment get’s the best of us.

Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again. "

Thanks for the speech. I support the players as well. As long as they support the team. If not, they can feck off.

This reductive post relating mere isolated incidents contains a veneer of balance but is highly misleading when looking at the broader context.

Ronaldo is only the most glaring example in a long line of poor player management by United. Whenever United get a world class star, they ruin him. He plays 1 or 2 troubled years and then gets cut or quits in frustration.Take some recent examples: Lukaku, Di Maria, Pogba, Cavani, and now Ronaldo. These were players at the top of the world before coming to United. Moreover, they regained their world class form as soon as they left!

Some of you will no doubt say that it’s cause the Premier League is so difficult. Ego-stroking nonsense. These players regularly destroyed Premier League sides. Lukaku was world class in the Premier League itself for an inferior club that gave him less opportunities! Plenty of players from less competitive leagues come to the PL and quickly establish themselves as the best in the league. Examples: Haaland from Germany, Suarez from Netherlands, and Tevez and Mascherano from Brazil!

Speaking of Tevez, some will say it is because foreign players have trouble adapting to England or the city of Manchester or fish & chips but this is not the case. Tevez, who was vital in Man United’s last truly great side, was carelessly let go. He transferred to our rival on the other side of town and was perfectly happy and super successful there for years!

Ronaldo’s son died. Did you hardhearted fans consider that it might be a reason for missing preseason? How many of you have had children die? Is it a relevant fact or should the death of his infant be cruelly ignored? Despite being 37 years old, he has shown no indication of a catastrophic decline and his commitment to fitness is unmatched. This is not like Brazilian Ronaldo eating too much feijoada, getting fat, and sinking like a rock. CR7 needs a run out to regain form.

In sum, Man United has a history of ruining world class stars by being too tactically rigid, forcing them into bad positions, acting impatiently, haranguing and disrespecting them. Players are important - who would have thought? Tactics should be designed around the players you have, not on whatever strikes the manager’s fancy or fits his ideology. The manager should not get into personal petty disputes with his players. The club must manage them like people, not machines. They are part of a club but they also have particular situations, aspirations, and even families - god forbid! No top player will want to sign with United given our destructive history.

Here’s a quote by Cavani who has been well-liked and performed excellently in all clubs, except for one. “The club & fans in Valencia give me a tremendous desire to repay their kindness on the pitch.”

I’ve been patient with Man United’s egregious mismanagement for years but this is the last straw! Likewise, Ronaldo has been patient and the walk-off was a justified lashing out against the oppression wrought on him directly by the tyrannical ETH and sneakily supported by the club administration and rabidly by its fans. Look at how ETH treated Casemiro. That’s all you need to know about the man.

I fear Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro will play his best World Cup, score 7 goals, and forcefully etch his name in the great book of football history while Man United slides into perennial midtable ignominy.

When I read crap like this online my first thought is always that I hope its a piss take and the person is having a laugh. Because if not it'd mean they have a screw loose, which is a bit sad

You forgot to bold the bit about Tevez leaving us for City and being happy "for years".
i.e. doing pretty much exactly what ronaldo did the other day (refusing to be subbed on in a game) and then disappearing to play golf in Argentina for months only to re-emerge when City were back in the title race (we all know ronny would come crawling back if we were top of the table in March) - and then fecking off once he got the chance

edit: re-reading the post - it's surely a wind-up.
Nobody's that stupid

It’s all deranged but Pogba hasn’t played a game since he left. World class!

Also Ronaldo arriving had a direct effect on Cavani at United. Ronaldo’s ego and marketing PR ensured they took the number 7 off him and Cavani after a great previous season then started to go through the motions as he never played… because Ronaldo took his place in the team! You can’t then use that as a point in favour of Ronaldo.
