This is truly fascinating. I know he will miss out on bonuses related to game performances but still, he has earned a lot of money this season whilst not playing much

Martial has been in training for 2 weeks now, almost 3 if we include the individual sessions. After his constant failures to remain fit every time he's come back this season, Ten Hag has said they've opted to be extra careful and take a very patient approach to his return this time. He's likely to make the FA cup squad this Sunday and could get some minutes. One would hope that the medical team and finally crack things up and figured out how to keep Martial fit but given his injury history that's still quite unlikely.

If by some huge miracle he manages to stay fit for the remainder of the season, that would be nice.

The guy is unreliable. He will again be fit when we go to US tour and score some goals there and will again be rated as the best striker.

Last chance for me personally. If he can't be fully fit from now to the end of the season (3 months) then we have to make a decision. I love Martial at his best but long gone are the days of 2 up top and having 3 top players to pick from. The number 9 is like a GK these days you need someone top class consistently starting. An injury prone player disrupts tactically too much.

He’s a feckin injury case. I can’t be arsed now looking for his stats but I bet they’re not good for what was at one point the most expensive teenager in the world.
We need a fit and contributing striker. Our goal difference could tell a blind man that.

Just realised he is 27. Feels like only a little while ago that this 19 year old kid the media had been yapping on about came on and destroyed Liverpool. Those first few months he was on a completely different level. It’s such a shame how all that incredible potential has been squandered. His injury issues now are beyond belief.

His time with Mourinho was an utter waste. He's really fallen of a cliff since that one great season with Ole.

It's amazing how he can be back in training for so long and never actually make the squad.

I'm not asking for miracles here. If he can give us 5 starts before the end of the season I'll take that.
Every game I check the names on the bench hoping he's back, and he never is. How can he back in training and never make the bloody bench?

2 week international break to get fit now, he surely has to be in the squad against Newcastle. We're in need of a serious boost of the likes of Martial/Eriksen returning to give us a lift for the remainder of the season, it's all a bit painful to watch at the minute.

Like I said, there's no way he's going to start and complete every game, but we must be able to squeeze a few more starts from him before the season ends.

Sick to death of his constant unavailability and it's left us relying on WW who is nowhere near good enough.

I'd cut our losses in the summer, unless we get the Saudi owners and we sign 2 strikers and he can be 3rd choice back up.

He will probably come back for about half a game then be unavailable again....

If we want to compete on all fronts we need players to be available and he never is. He'd be fine at somewhere like City where they have such depth it wouldn't matter but we don't so need people available and he never is.

He shouldn't even come into consideration when squad planning next season. We need 2 strikers.

He was unreal that season, and then lost his finishing touch in the quick restart to the next season before the injury woes really started. By the spring Cavani was red hot and he hasn’t been the same since.

So he's had three weeks training now and will get another two before we're back in action. Hopefully he can sustain his fitness for 6-7 weeks and finish the season. We need a competent striker up top in the run-in.

6-7 weeks :lol::lol:
I'd be surprised if he's able to play 3-4 games this season.

Hopefully he stays fit for the run in, surely ETH is just making sure he's 100% before bringing him back in. Still can't be relied on though so we will need an absolute minimum of a top class striker next season but hopefully we get another good striker as well.

Isn't that a bit weird he went completely missing once we signed Wout? End of last year he was like 2weeks out, 2 weeks playing, but since January it seems like he just vanished. Training for 2-3 weeks now and wasn't even in squad for Fulham. There also isn't any particular reason he's nor available, is there?

Just come out and say it: you think he's shrinking in the face of competition, as he allegedly did with Ibra, Sanchez, and Cavani.

ETH indicated that the previous times he came back as soon as he could and that may have led to him breaking down again. So this time they are taking it slower and building him up before putting him back into the team, which will hopefully stop him breaking down again so quickly. Whether it works or not, we'll find out over the rest of the season.

Nobody is going to pay good money to buy him and match his massive wages and I sincerely doubt he is going to be open to what would have to be a massive paycut. He is here until his contract expires.
Which is only until next summer. I agree with you with his huge wages poor record and now injury prone status nobody will touch him.

We're talking about a player that couldn't even hack the starting XI in Sevilla. He's not only really injury prone he's also not really good as well.

This guy is honestly like a tuned BMW M car with the boost dial turned up to 11. You know its going to go like stink for a few minutes before going back into the shop for lengthy repairs.

Where the feck is he? Any news on his injury?

Is he actually injured or is Ten Hag another manager he doesn't seem to like for some reason? Because it wouldn't be the first time for sure. Knowing him he is probably hurt that we've signed Weghorst, since he is injured since we have signed Weghorst.

ETH has pretty much raved over him all season. Recently he said that they were taking it slower this time as they looked to build Martial back up, rather than bringing him straight back in as they had been doing earlier in the season when he would break down again almost immediately. We'll find out over the next couple of weeks whether it works or not.

Yeah think he's basically taking the Sancho approach with Martial. Not the same circumstances obviously but he's been patient with both in rather having them back when they are feeling fully 100% as opposed to any half measures.
