Good defensive performance. But to be honest I don't need a 350k/week guy to play like he did today. He deserves the record and I hope he gets it asap. We should try to ship him out end of the year.
In a perfect world, he'll take a paycut to about 180k and accept co-captainship of the squad. C'mon Wazza, you know you want to retire at United!

What's next? People will dig through his 5 yards goals to discredit them too?

Looking at the above videos, he does seem to have got 3-4 proper assists - some good crosses from wide and other good balls. Ultimately every player must get some fortituous assists along the way. Fair play to him.
But I still think he is finished at the club and should move out at the end of the season gracefully on the back of this season's statiatics.

Granted a couple of Rooney's PL assists are bogus, I still don't see why people are so incensed about him. Jose is just trying to put a team out there that can win games, and Rooney is the best option. Martial has been struggling and has a horrible attitude despite some mismanagement from Mourinho. Mkhi is hurt. Young, Mata, and Depay are inferior options. So even though Mourinho knows that Rooney is an overpaid player who will rarely beat his man 1v1, Rooney has good goal scoring instincts, is a willing passer, and tracks back. I'm sure Mourinho knows long term either Martial needs to figure things out or Rooney needs to be replaced. Can't do anything about it until the next couple transfer windows.

While his assist stat might not truly reflect his "real contribution" i think it's unfair to scrutinize and analyze them like this. It's not like every assist from Sanchez, Hazard and Couthino is a defense shattering through ball either. Assists only really tell who's second last on the ball and these prove Rooney has been involved in our attacks.

He hasn't managed to replicate the great form he showed vs West Ham, but i think he did alright yesterday. Nothing that suggests he should walk into the starting XI, but leaps and bounds better than the shite he showed at the start of the season

He is not in best of form and hence he is not starting regularly.
I dont know why some people are still complaining.

Exactly. There's literally no reason to hate or complain about the man now that he's not an automatic starter. He's not kicked up a fuss or anything, and is not terrible when he does play.

Oops, looked like an interception even after few watching, but he did pass it to Ibra there. Still, pretty low to call it "important contribution" anyway.

They will do anything to justify the worst "big name" player of all time.

He's been one of our best players so far this season.

Depends on who we are playing. You can't have a best player who your coach doesn't play the majority of the games. Mata is a luxury player who will score good goals for us, but won''t be a consistent difference maker.

Absolutely mystifies me, should long be dispelled after this season's displays.
Only played half the available minutes in the PL so far. Most which were during Mkhi's time in the doghouse. Since then no Mata sighting, but I'm sure Jose shares your beliefs that he is more than a squad player. I'm mystified how ignorant people get after 3 goals. Sure he has attempted to defend, but he isn't very effective at it. Pogba and Mhki can play Mata's role better without having to worry about any of the shortcomings.

Same can be said about Smalling, Bailly, Shaw, Rashford, Martial, etc.

Fact is, it's a squad game, and everyone will need to be ready to step up and contribute when called upon. That is what happened today.
Which is fine for this season, but the longer term project we should be building without looking to him. Might seem harsh, but its the way forward.

Too many mince pies, pulled a stomach muscle.

I doubt he would have started even without an injury to be honest. Mourinho is managing him well.

Not at all. Had he not put in the absolute dross that he has over the last 2 years then fair enough I guess (everyone has different views after all) but fact of the matter is that he's been droppable for 3 or 4 years now and simply not Manchester United level for at least 2. Fergie knew.

Nothing harsh about the truth. You wouldn't keep a laptop still running on Windows 98, would you?

Fair, very fair. (Though it was the best OS at a time).
Which is a good comparison.

For me, I think Rooney should be starting more of the cup matches or home matches against lower teams on the left when we need to rest some players (eg Martial if hes had a run of games).

Don't bother with him, you're not allowed to speak badly about papa Wazza.

Yep. We havent got value for money since he signed that contract extension. If he was happy to take a huge paycut and be happy to be a squad player, I wouldnt care.
Its funny cos that would benefit him the most in terms of winning trophies long term and maybe even breaking the record.

Only came in here to check if he was suspended or hung over. Looks like the latter. Not missed at all, again.

The indications so far are that he is content with a squad role and who wouldn't on his salary? If his keeps his mouth shut and proves to be useful on and off the pitch he can add to his trophy collection and break the record.

Jose said the injury is to the Pectinus in Portuguese, whicxh I'm guessing means he's pulled his pectoral muscle.

While I would want to say that I don't care but the fact that, selling Rooney to suitors in China will bring in enough revenue to possibly pay for Griezmann and this Lindelof fella and their wages easily, makes it a better prospect to get him out asap for some monies!

He should take the Chinese up on their offer and become the face of that franchise. It'll be good for him similar to George Best playing in the States.
