I Believe he was born in 1980 and therefore would have started school in 1985 and done his GCSE's in 1996
Correct me if I'm wrong but Labour didn't come into power till half way through 1997 and it wasn't till 1998 they passed the education standards and systems act (by which time he was at Oxford Uni) and it was actually labours second term where they focussed more on education reforms and as such its fair to say Labour didn't have much to do with state schools during his education
