The Euro draft
All players shall be judged only on their performances at the tournaments, not on what they did throughout their career.
Playerpool: Every player, who featured in a game at the Central European International Cup (the amateur competitons don't count) or the UEFA European championships (only the tournaments, not the qualifications - 4 teams until 1976, then 8 teams until 1992 and 16 teams from 1996 to 2012), is eligible.
Restrictions:
1. Every side (the XI players on the virtual pitch, not the squad) has to include at least 3 players eligible through the tournaments played before 1966 (the 5 CEICs and the 1960 and 1964 Euros).
2. No side (the XI players on the virtual pitch, not the squad) can field more than two players from one nation.
- The nation of a player is defined through his first appearance at one of those tournaments. The country he played for in his first game at one of the CEICs or Euros is his nation for this draft.
- If a player played for a multi-nation NT that doesn't exist anymore (e.g. Yugoslavia), their NT is defined as that of their city of birth. This is so that there is a greater pool of nations to pick from. No debate on ethnicity or heritage will be entertained. It's a football draft, not a politics debate.
Drafting sequence: in the order the teams have been randomly drawn, down from 1st to 16th, then back up to the 1st and down again and so on.
Rules for the drafting:
* You have 8 hours to post your draft pick and update the list. If you do not do so, the draft proceeds to the next manager in line and it is up to you to post your draft pick at your earliest convenience.
* When posting your draft pick, please post a picture of the player. You can also briefly explain why you picked this player.
* Once you have posted your draft pick you can't change it and you have to PM the manager next in line to inform him/her that it is his/her turn. There are !no! exceptions to this rule, please honour it, even if you feck up.
Squad size:
12 players before the first match, then 14 for the quarterfinals, 16 for the semifinals and 17 for the final
Reinforcements: after each knockout round all eliminated players go into the reinforcement pool and stay there till the final. After the first round and the quarterfinals, each manager gets to pick 2 players in a snake format with the draft order reversed from the previous round. After the semifinal, the two finalists can only pick one player as a reinforcement and it'll be in a kinda sheep format (both managers send their picks to me - 3 attempts - and if they block each other, no one gets the player and he's dropped from the pool).
Voting rules/game results:
1. I'm way too lazy to count, so none of that 'manager votes count double' thing we had in recent drafts. Each vote is equal. Votes from the two managers and their possible assistants/scouts obviously don't count. If a game ends in a draw, we have penalty shootouts.
2. When we reach the semifinals, the semifinalists aren't allowed to vote in the other semifinal unless they already lost theirs, so that they can't influence who they have to play in the final.
Assitants/Scouts:
I like the idea of it, so obviously they're allowed. But use them to increase the pace of the drafting. Don't wait for them to come online and give their opinion, if it's already your turn. You're the manager, plan ahead or make a decision quickly. And let us know who your assistant/scout is, if you decide to team up with someone.
Spirit of the theme: Don't get too creative when it comes to the players and use them in the roles they played during the Euro tournaments. E.g. Lahm hasn't played in midfield at a Euro like he did at the last World Cup, so don't use him as a midfielder, even if it's convenient for your team. I don't want to make threats and have no clue how to punish a manager, who attempts to do something like that. Just don't do it and we won't have any drama.
I stole some of the points from your excellent All-Time Draft op @antohan , thanks for your help.
