Each to their own I guess but I think there is something in the theory that the more you encounter rival fans in your everyday life adds to the rivalry. Make no mistake, the mate of mine I quoted can't stand Liverpool but he doesn't have an almost daily interaction with their fans like he does with City's. The Manchester-Liverpool rivalry does go back a long way but I don't think it started manifesting itself in football until at least the 1960's when supporters became more tribalistic in general. City fans have had their problems with the Merseyside clubs down the years too, particularly in the 70's and 80's but while Liverpool wasn't exactly a walk in the park we've had more issues and incidents with Everton fans.

Gorton isn't really as blue an area as it used to be - I think 20 years or so of United success while City weren't even close to challenging has seen City's support diluted in that and other areas.
Fair enough, ive been out of the area 10 years. When i was growing up noone really cared about City. It was all about beating Liverpool. And you'd be lynched in Gorton if you wore a red shirt.

Klopp came in in October to a new country and a new league and another man's team. He has to contend with a whole host of injuries a ridiculous schedule of games meaning he can't train regularly with the team and can't get the fitness levels he expects.

We've been to 2 cup finals, OK we finished 8th and it's not good enough but given the above plus the fact that he was still working out how to deal with PL opposition and the scratch team he had to put out in some fixtures I think there is plenty of mitigation.

We'll have new players, a full pre-season and bag loads of time between games. Last time that happened we competed for the league.

I'll just remind you Leicester, that team you all thought were full of world beaters at the start of 15/16, just won the league.

If you don't believe what can be achieved by a united team (and united supporter base) and aren't optimistic at this point you might as well pack up and go home

Been trying to stay out of this one...

Where? They have been decreasing over the years since Rafa's sacking - I think that was the turning point of the forums. Threads got locked with increasing regularity, so discussions involving both good and bad posters came to a crashing halt. What's worse is that the mods got proactive, so a thread on a previously contentious subject gets locked in minutes.

Would anyone want to stay in a forum like that?
Yeah, was it when Rafa was getting criticised in match threads that they banned conventional match threads altogether? Just having prematch, half time and post match discussion. I remember it being around then.

Is it June 1st or July 1st we traditionally start the thread for the new season? I'm hoping it's June because this one is dying horribly.

Does anyone have the pic of the Liverpool fans yelling at Sterling? The one where that fat guy looks like the compass face blowing air on one of those old school maps.

It's the fat guy, it's always the fat guy.

He is too fat and lazy to even through a proper strop.

Somewhere around then, yea. Those two did so much damage to the club - even the fan base was affected.

Oh, and the megathreads. I hate megathreads. The only people who like megathreads are people who obsessively follow everything, and I don't. It just makes it impossible to find points of interest to discuss.

Let's make sure next season's thread has a good, funny name. Anyone got suggestions?

I'll start the bidding with these:

RAWK goes into meltdown: Klopp in the name of love.

RAWK goes into meltdown: The hateful eighth.
