Yeah i would love to see Pogba (back) here.
If we could get him and our right side sorted our team could be back to world class....

Very true. At this point, with Pogba (or Verratti) and a top RW we are back challenging for titles.
I trust Jose will get things right.

Wow, talk about a hyperbole. Pogba is excellent and one of the best midfielders in his position, as any avid watcher of Juventus can tell. He is a bit inconsistent, but has great statistics, an imposing physical presence and a Zidane-esque ability to produce magic at any time.

He is currently at the stage of his career where Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale were before completely exploding, but Pogba has a very similar obvious potential. Don't forget how those three were constantly called overrated, overpriced, overhyped, chokers etc, but clearly had everything required (including mindset) to become world class.
He's definitely nowhere near Modric right now. But he's young enough to get there if he improves.

and you're understating his inconsistency. He's a YouTube demigod, but when you watch him play for 90 minutes, he's missing for large parts of the game and seems more like a luxury player.

There's no way you can say Pogba is at the level of Kroos or Rakitic.
Rakitic is nothing special. Had you said Modric I'd agree.

Not sure he'll ever turn into a Modric type heart beat of a side, always seeking the ball type. Definitely people saying he'll progress in time into a dominating box to box midfielder are, way, way off the mark. Thats not his style at all.
And whats wrong with Rakitic? :D he's a proper little dynamo of a player, non stop worker, can tackle, can pass, gets forward to support the attack, chips in with goals... the only negative about him is he only seems to last 70~mins a game playing at that pace.

Rakitic is nothing special. Had you said Modric I'd agree.
Crazy man, he was fantastic for servilla before Barca roo. Fantastic technique but works hard too. He would fit into any team.

Apparently going to be dropped for tomorrows game, with France swapping to a 4-2-3-1 (Payet at #10).

I had speculated on this after the game (Pogba being dropped) I think Martial and Coman will give the team better balance if he insists of sticking with and old school number 9 in Giroud.

I'd probably argue you have to be quite special to get to a team like Barcelona in fairness

He's a very good footballer and I'd love him in our team. By special I mean truly elite footballers. Modric is in the best CM in the game. Rakitic is very good but special is the likes of Scholes, Xavi, Schweinsteiger, Modric etc. IMO.

Although I'm not a big fan of Pogba (mainly because I don't like casual approach on the pitch) but I find it very unfair to say Pogba isn't as good as Yaya or Gerrard when we've seen both Yaya and Gerrard in their prime where as the level of performance we're seeing from Pogba we don't know whether if it's his best or if it's not even a fraction of his true ability. Comparing him against players of similar age group is more apt hence the likes of Verratti, Koke or even Kroos are a better gauge than someone who has already retired or about to retire.

I don't think Pogba and Gerrard are similar in any way, shape or form. To begin with, Gerrrard wasn't technically good but he'd a strong engine that enabled him to make lung-busting runs up and down the pitch all game long. Gerrard was very dynamic, very passionate about the game and it reflected on the pitch through his willingness to get involve in every possible way where as Pogba doesn't show a fraction of that hunger or desire. Even a compilation video of Gerrard would show lots of lunging tackles, strong runs up and down the pitch, some Hollywood passes and some bullet shots. A Pogba compilation on the other hand, would have some deft touches, nice flicks, some dazzling dribbles, some Beckham-esque crosses and some bullet shots.

Pogba isn't Yaya either. Yaya started his career in defense before transforming himself into a box-to-box beast so the laziness he displays nowadays wasn't always like this and I think it's partly because of his age his big frame doesn't allow him to do things that he's supposed to and partly because it's also become a mental issue too. Yaya uses/used his big frame to his advantage which Pogba rarely does.

Purely in terms of style and approach, I find Pogba more comparable to Balotelli although they play in different positions. Both have big frame, strong physique which they rarely use, both have good technique although Pogba is way better technically and in Balotelli's case it at times gets blown out of proportion, both show a serious lack of interest in the game while on the pitch, both can come up with a moment of brilliance which in Pogba's case happens more frequently and in Balotelli's case the very few times it happened the media milked it dry, and both could offer so much more yet they hardly do so.

To get the best out of Pogba the manager must come up with a plan so that it forces Pogba to get involved in the game more otherwise he won't. He needs to be played high up the pitch with very little to no defensive responsibilities. A 3 men midfield of Pogba, Kroos and Kante would struggle in my opinion because Kante won't be able to cover both Pogba and Kroos' backs but a Pogba, Modric/Busquets, Knate combo might potentially work. Probably a 4312 formation would get the best out of Pogba where there are 3 midfielders playing behind working their socks off as well as in this system the No10 normally gets involved in the game more. And with him playing so further up the pitch, a deft touch, flick or dribble can potentially unlock/open up any defense. Not to mention his good shooting technique would become very handy too.

If France drop Pogba and play Payet there who is in great form and can do almost everything that's expected from Pogba, people probably wouldn't even notice it. With their current 3 men midfield in Pogba, Matuidi and Kante I believe they'd probably struggle to control game against most decent sides and would probably have to rely on some magic moments like yesterday's game even though they're a very strong side and shouldn't be relying on such things.
Gerrard one of the best strikers of the ball I have seen. kind of like Pogba. neither are super slick with their passing but both can make a 'hollywood' pass.

Never judge a player through compilations. Pogba does fancy flicks here and there and the odd dribble but its the odd moment in a game where he isn't part of it for large portions.

The Balotelli comparison is quite good though

Modric is truly the best CM in the game and has been so for quite some time, I consider him our biggest miss.
SAF should have paid the £40m Levy was demanding. He was quoted as saying that Modric was the closest thing to Scholes out there.

Players like Modric, scholes or Iniesta don't have the stats but you would much prefer them in your team than say.......Pogba

Levy only allowed Modric to go abroad.

Good decision, he was crap against us. They should play Martial and Coman on the wings, Payet in the middle and Griezmann as striker, imo

Griezmann was worse than Pogba in that game. It'll be Giroud through the middle.

True that, Modric, scholes and Iniesta are once in a generation type of players IMO.
I can see Verratti following in their footsteps as well.

The free flowing attacking in that side would be scary.

Cannot see Pogba being dropped because of one average game. I swear the overreaction is immense sometimes. He is regarded as the catalyst for this team and he does indeed have the hope of a nation on his shoulders if he can get going.

France have an extremely talented young squad. Even more so when you think, Zouma, Laporte and Varane are all missing because of injury.

Could be a golden generation for the French

Wrong person! I've been banging on about this since I got access to the main. Let me write it again what I wrote a couple of days ago, Youtube compilation is the worst tool to judge a player's ability as it can make Cleverley look like Scholesy!

You must be wondering then why I's talking about it here. Because most here seem to judge players based on some Youtube clips. So I thought it'd be easier for others if I could make the comparison between Pogba and Gerrard in terms what it'd look like if one is to judge them on the basis of Youtube clips. I've never watched a Youtbe compilation of Gerrard and I haven't watched Pogba's in 2 years (although I'm not sure If I ever watched one once he left United) and hence I said 'Even a compilation video of Gerrard would show' because I'm not sure if that's all it'd show. As you pointed out, Pogba also plays Hollywood passes which Youtube clips might include but since those passes aren't played as frequently as Gerrard, so I wasn't sure whether an Youtube clip would include it or not. Anyway, long story short, I only watch compilation of ex-players (Scholesy being the single most one) and also recently watched some Martial and Rashford's clip.

As for Pogba's involvement in the game, you're right and that's the reason I'm not a big fan of his and that's why I said people probably wouldn't even notice if France dropped him for the next game.

Dont know how to embed but read on Reddit that according to Cope Pogba is too far away for Madrid. Juve are looking for 140m and his agent 25m.
If Woodward throws that at Juve we get him. If he's worth it is another matter

Exactly this, so far every top player has looked off the boil. But those who can claim that Pogba is "Not good enough for United" and that they "Do not want" are best ignored. Ronald had a bad game so he too is not good enough if we ignore his whole career..

It is their golden generation.

You obviously missed the Zizzou, Vieria, Thuram, Blanc, trez, Henry, Anelka and many more in that era that dominated world football. Any other European country and yes they would be a golden generation but not France.

Yeah, never heard of Zidane, Vieira, Thuram, etc etc.

Didn't think there could be just 1 golden generation per nation. They had a great team earlier but if things go well for their incredible talents, they are set to have another for a good few years.

Sorry your previous post had said it is their golden generation. So I thought you might have been of an age you had missed out on them dominating the international stage.

165m for POGBA?!!!! No chance, should never happen for that much. I would much rather we go for an under the radar transfer who improves to be very good.

If it's what we have to pay, it's what we have to pay. I'd rather buy Pogba who is already one of the best players in the world in his position (if not the best outright) than four 'promising talents' for 30 million pounds each.

Better to buy established world class than gamble on up and coming talents. It's always a risk that he'll flop here, but if that happens we can recoup most of our money a la Di Maria.

This has to be the least United like post I've ever seen on here I think.

Same. I would much rather 4 promising 30 mill talents unless its someone of Messi or prime Iniesta level talent (once in a generation talent). fact is there will be better centre midfielders than Pogba and there exists some today who can do what he can and others who can do what he cannot.
